Middle Age Legends
Joan of Arc
Joan was properly known as "The Maid of Orleans". She secretly left her parents home to go lead the army. She lived from 1412-1431. Joan truly beleived that God spoke to her through visions, which led her to want to lead the army.
At the age of 15 she led the French soldiers to victory at the Battle of Orleans. At the age of 19 she was burned at the stake for commiting several crimes, one being because she wore pants. She was said to have "nothing but good" in her.
Joan made the decision of leading of the army by herself as a 15 year old girl. She led the army and was very successful. As a young girl she did things that a grown man could not have done.
King John was called John Lackland in his early life because his father hadn't granted him as an apprentice to the thrown. He was said to be lion-hearted and strong. His father was Henry II, which William attempted to kill, along with his second wife.
He has to accept the Magna Carta in order to stay alive. Everyone was very mad at him for the way he set up the legal system (with the king having all power), and they demanded equality. King John was a "very stubborn, but also understanding man". He was also a very selfish king.
The signing of the Magna Carta was his most significant accomplishment. He made it so that the English king had to obey the same laws as everyone else. By accepting the Magna Carta he agrees to not collect taxes without the nobles consent.
