A Message from the 8th Grade Teachers
Welcome back! We are looking forward to a wonderful new school year. As part of our new teaming process, the KPMS staff has organized an amazing Team-Building field trip to Boda Borg for each of the three teams (yellow team September 25, white team October 3, and green team October 8.)
Everyone needs a waiver. All students need a waiver filled out entirely by their parent or legal guardian, using a valid email address for that parent or guardian. Only students with completed waivers can participate.
Sneakers are required. Boda Borg also suggests that students wear comfortable clothes. Students will only be allowed to participate with appropriate footwear. In particular, flip flops, sandals, heels, Crocs, clogs, opened-toe shoes, etc. are not allowed.
Each student will need to have a permission slip completed from KPMS, payment using Family ID, and the waiver form through Boda Borg. We will also ask the students to bring a bagged lunch that day. The bus will leave KPMS at 8:00 AM and will return by 1:30 PM.
A separate communication will be sent out to all families with information about the KPMS permission slip and Family ID payment, as well as the Boda Borg waiver link. No student can participate without the waiver form on file with Boda Borg one week prior to their trip.
We are looking forward to an exciting year!
A Reminder about Cell Phones & Electronic Devices (including Smartwatches)
Cell phones and other electronic devices (including smartwatches) must be turned off and put away for the school day. If a student ignores school policy and is found to be using their cellphone/smartwatch or other electronic device during the school day without explicit permission from the teacher, the device will be confiscated, a parent/guardian will be alerted, and the student will be issued an office detention. If this is a first offense, the confiscated device can be collected by the student at the end of the school day in the main office. For a repeated violation, a parent/guardian will be asked to retrieve the confiscated device after meeting with school administration. Please be aware that information regarding our expectations about electronic devices was shared with students during our opening day assembly.
If, in an emergency, a student needs to contact their parent/guardian or a parent/guardian needs to contact their child during the school day, this contact should be made through the KPMS main office.
From the Nurse's Office...
On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, King Philip Middle School will begin screening students for Vision, Hearing, Postural (curvature of the spine), and BMI (height and weight) during physical education class.
If you do not want your child to be screened, please send in a note that states that you are opting out of these screenings for your child. The note should be turned-in to your child's physical education teacher.
Pedestrian Safety
It is important that students remain safe when walking to and from school. Please review the following tips regarding pedestrian safety with your child.
- Use sidewalks whenever possible. If the walking route does not have a sidewalk and you are forced to walk in the road, always walk in the direction facing oncoming traffic. Stay safely to the side and do not walk in the middle of the road.
- Make sure that you look left, right and left again before crossing the street. Make sure that you are seen by oncoming traffic before crossing.
- Be alert – don’t be distracted by cell phones or earbuds.
- Cross streets at corners or in crosswalks. Cross where pedestrians are expected. There are two crosswalks for students to use to cross King Street in front of middle school – you should use these if you need to cross the road.
- Wear bright and/or reflective clothing, and use a flashlight if it is dark.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Be alert to potential dangers and stay focused!
