What are these mysterious things

Everyone has seen a worm....but not everyone knows what this thing really is!

An earthworm is a tube-shaped, segmented animal that is usually found in the soil. The digestive system runs through the length of its body. It conducts cellular respiration through its skin. They are often found in soil and they move easily through the soil due to their long skinny bodies. Earthworms are actually hermaphrodites which means that an idividual actually carries both male and female sex organs. An earthworm is an invertabrates, it actually lacks skeleton, but it can only maintain its shape due to hydrostatic skeleton. Earthworms are in the kingdom Animalia, phylum Annelida, class Obligochaeta, subclass Haplotaxida, and order Megadrilacea. These are some of the most populated animals throughout the world.

Prey and Predators

The earthworm is a very easy going animal. They prey on dead matter and they really don't harm anything. Now, on the flip side the earthworms are prey to man species. Such as humans, birds, snake, rodents, and insects.

The Digestive System

Earthworms bodies are divided up to many parts, but each part has a certain responsibility. The digestive system consists of the pharynx, the esophagus, the crop, the intestine, and the gizzard. In the Digestive system the whole system is spread across the whole body. Meaning the digestive system is present in every part of the body. This system is relative to many other body systems because this is how the body gets food and nutrients.
