Students have been working hard all month long to celebrate National Poetry Month. We are so excited to invite families to come and see our writing. Please look for an invitation SOON for our party on May 10th. If you would like to donate a refreshment (tea, cookies, etc.) for our guests to enjoy as they take a gallery walk of our work, please respond via email with that information.
Goodbye Miss Cason
Tuesday is Miss Cason's last official day with our class. She has been doing some practicum work this semester and has been an integral part of our learning two to three days a week since January. If your kiddo wants to send in a card or goodies for her to enjoy or use in her future classroom, please do so Monday or Tuesday. We will miss her!
LEGOS!
While we are not in full swing yet with our Lego curriculum, we have been breaking out the Lego sets to explore them. I can't wait to work on the storytelling and math with them!
FIELD TRIP!
Our first grade field trip to Kaleidoscope is coming soon. You should have seen a permission slip, volunteer, and lunch form come home. Please be sure to fill out and send back that information as soon as possible if you have not already done so. Unfortunately, we already have enough volunteers and cannot take any more helpers. Thank you to those who are willing to go and help out!
Earth Day
Last Friday we celebrated Earth Day. In addition to creating bird feeders with Cheerios and pipe cleaners, we traded rooms with the other 1st grade teachers to create and learn more about conservation. The rest of the week we learned about saving water and energy. Ask your student about how to help the earth!
Primary and Secondary Sources
Our latest learning challenge has been talking about Primary and Secondary Sources for researching. The students have been diving into some examples from the Titanic as well as John F. Kennedy. A big thank you to Mrs. Moser, who came in to read about the Titanic this week as we explored sources. We had some great, concrete examples, so if your student comes home talking about these two subjects more than usual, that is why!
