ISTEP Information

The Parent Portal is now open for you to check your child's preliminary ISTEP results. You will need your child's claim code to log in. A copy of the claim code letter can be found by logging into Skyward Family Access and clicking on the "Portfolio" tab on the left side. There you will find the "2018 ISTEP Claim Code" attachment. If your child did not pass, please review their results and request a re-score if applicable. This needs to be done by today, Friday, June 22. Final results will be available July 26th.

Registration Information

Online registration for returning students in 2018-2019 School Year:
July 24 to July 31. You will need to log in to your Skyward Family Access account to complete online registration. *Computers will be available at all schools during normal working hours. After August 2nd please call your school. The first day of school is Monday, August 13, 2018.

Onsite registration at the school buildings for new students 2018-2019:

High School and Middle Schools - Tuesday, July 31 and Wednesday, August 1 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Elementary Schools - July 31 - August 7 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Incoming 6th Graders:

If you are the parent/guardian of an incoming 6th grader, please bring documentation for required vaccinations to your respective middle school during the on-site registration dates and times.

New Students to VCS

For students new to the Valparaiso Community Schools for the 2018-19 school year, excluding students who enrolled through Kindergarten Roundup, the enrollment process requires an appointment with school personnel. Please refer to our website and complete the New Student Information Form by clicking on the link provided below your school. New-to-VCS students entering VHS, BFMS, or TJMS will need to meet with a guidance counselor prior to registering. Appointment window selections are available on these schools' New Student Information Forms. Documents required to register your student: Transcript, Birth Certificate, Immunization Records and Proof of Residency.

Main Office Construction Update

Our main office has been undergoing renovations since the end of school. We can't wait to see the final result! Please note that Door 4 should be used in place of Door 2 until construction is complete. Thanks!

Summer Sports Information

6th Grade Locker Jamboree

Incoming 6th grade students are invited to our first annual Locker Jamboree on Friday, August 3rd! Please join us from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. to decorate your locker, listen to music, visit old friends, and meet new ones. End your visit with a Kona Ice. Your teachers are hoping to see you all there!

Orientation Day for All 6th Graders and New Students

When: Friday, August 10th

All 6th grade and new 7th and 8th grade students are expected to attend school from 7:50-10:15 a.m. on this day. Students will meet their teachers, follow their class schedule, and learn how to open their lockers. 7th and 8th grade students' day will include important technology training. Buses will be picking up students on the regular morning schedule Friday after 7:00 a.m. and returning students to their home after 10:30 a.m. Students are asked to bring their schedules and meet in the cafeteria. 7th and 8th grade students who have already attended BFMS should remain at home on this day.

Class Placement Information

Please click on the grade level links below to see the criteria used to place our students in honors classes at the middle school level. Parents will be notified the week of June 25th by email if your child will be placed into Honors Classes.

6th Grade - ELA and Math notification will be sent through email.

7th Grade - ELA and Math students received notification by teachers. Science will be notified through email.

8th Grade - ELA and Math students received notification by teachers. Biology will be notified through email.

Physical Education Uniforms

6th grade and new 7th and 8th grade students may purchase physical education uniforms from Blythe's Sport Shop. You can purchase online or pick it up at the store (located at 2810 Calumet Avenue) for a cost of $27.00 ($12.50-shorts, $14.50-shirt). Students are welcome to wear uniforms purchased for older siblings. All students are expected to wear P.E. uniforms. Purchase Online

English Language Learner Registration Night

  • Bilingual volunteers help you register your children for school and ask questions

  • Registration for Compass International Family Center’s free programming

  • Free school supplies

When: Tuesday, July 31st, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Where: Parkview Elementary School (1405 Wood Street, Valparaiso, Indiana 46383)

Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

2018-2019 VCS School Calendar

Parent Teacher Conferences will be the evening of October 24 and the afternoon of October 25 for all elementary and middle school parents.
