Word From The Woods
Bishop Woods School Newsletter - 5.16.21
Greetings Bishop Woods Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, and enjoyed the beautiful weather. This week will be a full week of school for all students. All mid-term progress reports for marking period 4 are now ready for you to view in PowerSchool. Hard copies will be mailed home this week as well.
I am excited to share that our New Haven Public School district has been granted funding from the federal government to help transform education post-Covid. The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund (ARP ESSER) will allow for a portion of the funding to be given to each school; in turn, we must come with a plan on how we will use this funding to best address the needs of our Bishop Woods community. In order to gather feedback from families on the use of this funding, I am holding a parent/guardian roundtable on Thursday, May 20th at 5pm. This meeting will be virtual, and I invite everyone to join to share their ideas. The Zoom link for this session is below. If you plan to attend, please fill out the RSVP as well, so I can ensure I have an appropriate number of facilitators. If you are unable to attend, you are still able to provide feedback on the RSVP form at the link below.

This week is the last week of state testing for our middle school students. Students in grades 6-8 will take the math portion of the Smarter Balanced Assessment on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday morning from 9:45 - 11am. Please remember the importance of your child coming to school well-rested and on time, and that they bring their school-issued Chromebook fully charged with them. Remote students will have asynchronous work posted during this time block, and should refer to their Google Classroom stream for their schedule each day. While our 6th grade students will follow their normal schedule, all 7th and 8th graders (in person and remote) will have their specials class starting at 8:35am. Homeroom will take place at 9:20, and remote students should log in to homeroom for attendance at this time.
School pictures are scheduled for May 24th or May 27th. All details are below. I will be sending out the schedule for in person and remote students in an email this week.
Our last fundraiser for the year will be the sale of Bishop Woods t-shirts for children and adults. Congratulations to 6th grade student Joanna H. whose design was chosen from our school-wide design contest! Please see below for more information on how to order.
Lastly, if you have not done so already, please complete the Family-School Relationship Survey. The link is provided below. We will also be sending paper copies home on Monday. All paper versions must be returned to the school so we can mail them in.
