A Message from the Principal
Hello Mesa Families,
We are in full swing for the school year. As educators, we realized that even though we have been back for roughly 2 months, we have only seen our students in person for roughly 14 days. During the first two months, we have worked to get to know our students and help them feel comfortable in this new educational environment.
We so appreciate your support by attending Mesa's Virtual Back to School Night. We recognize that event was very different this year, but we were happy to see the Mesa families that attended.
Our PTO has done an amazing job this year supporting our teachers and creating a number of fundraising opportunities, please look to join the group if you are interested.
At the DCSD Board Meeting on September 15th, Mary Murphy, Niki Brock, Lindsey Anderson, Alice Adetoye, Jessica Kinsey, and Chris Weiss were recognized for their work with the global classroom that was created and implemented at Mesa Middle School.
Through a rigorous, data-driven process, Colorado Succeeds selected 12 finalists that showcase exemplary education programs in two categories: Transformational Impact and Excellence in Education. Six winners receive $15,000 each, while six runners-up receive $5,000 each, to support their work. Mesa Middle School was named a finalist for the Succeeds Prize, more specifically the Transformational Impact in a Middle School Award.
This process was extremely rigorous with a lengthy application, teacher/student interviews and multiple follow up sessions. Here is the link on Youtube where you can see the video on Mesa. Please go to 9:25 on the video. In addition, here is their website that lists us as a finalist: https://coloradosucceeds.org/age-of-agility/meetthe2020finalists/
As always if you have any questions or if there is something we can support you with, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. We are always looking to grow and improve.
Sincerely,
Tony Jackowski

Mesa's Counseling Department
The Counseling Department has been completing their Student Snapshots, where they meet with every 6th grader, 7th grader and all new 8th graders to Mesa. Some of the things discussed during these meetings is who is a trusted adult at school, how has the year been and what kind of support they want from the Counseling Department.
