Lil Steamer Families --
Recently, I've noticed and heard some of our students who want to quit rather quickly when facing difficult tasks or challenges.
It's understandable with subjects they don't view themselves as 'good' at.
So, I'd like to add some perspective to that observation by sharing this quote:
"When a child is learning how to walk and falls down 50 times, they never think to themselves, 'Maybe this isn't for me.' "
As educators, our jobs are to teach our students.
But, parents are the most influential teachers there are.
Need proof?
Think of the hobbies your children engage in, the way that they laugh, or the times you or someone you know has said "That's just like your mom/dad!"
You kept encouraging your children take their first steps when it was difficult.
Why should encouraging them in academics be any different?
You may not have all the answers, but that's okay.
Teach them to persevere.
Teach them to be resilient.
Teach them that they can do hard things.
And there's no better way to do that than to demonstrate those behaviors for them.
We're rooting for all of our students, but we're rooting for you, too, parents :)

As I visited classrooms this week, we discussed the importance of listening with attention. Students practiced using their listening skills with partners as they shared some of their favorite things. It never hurts to review listening skills with your children. Good listeners focus on the speaker's words, ask questions to find out more information, repeat back what they have heard, and never interrupt. It’s respectful to listen with attention as it helps you to learn and shows that you care about what others have to say.
