Renaissance Star Testing
Our first window of Star administration is occurring during the month of September. The Star assessments are diagnostic assessments designed to provide educators and parents with important information about a student's progress. Students in grades 1-5 take the Star reading and/or early literacy assessment as well as the Star mathematics assessment benchmarked for their specific grade. To read general information about the Star assessments, parents are encouraged to visit their family resources page.
Kindergarten teachers administer the Star CBMs (Curriculum Based Measures) in both reading and mathematics. The Fall kindergarten reading assessments assess a student's understanding of letters and their sounds, basic phonological awareness, and early decoding. The kindergarten math assessments include recognizing numerals and their value. Often times the CBMs may be administered in other grade levels, on an as-needed individual basis. For more information regarding the Star CBMs, please click here.

New Jersey Farm to School Week
As we dive into the end of September, Pomptonian is ready to kick off New Jersey Farm to School Week the last week of this month and National Farm to School Month in October. In early October we will also be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Arepas. Please visit Pomptonian’s Farm to School Magazine, highlighting all of the produce we will be featuring and the farms growing it.
To celebrate New Jersey Farm to School Week students will be offered local corn from Buzby Farms and local grapes (contains seeds) from Evergreen Farms, two of New Jersey’s finest. Check out our latest edition of the Nutrition News, Super Sweet New Jersey Corn. In this video we took a tour of Buzby Farms and learned about harvesting corn in the Garden State.
Student Code of Conduct Assemblies
Over the last two weeks, Principal Liss met with ALL grades to discuss school rules and expectations. In addition, students learned about bullying versus conflict, how to remain safe, and basic rules that help them learn. Finally, Mr. Liss reviewed the 5 core values; Gratitude, Respect, Responsibility, Kindness, and Acceptance.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Want to know how to help volunteer in your child’s school?
Here are some opportunities for you to join:
CAS Holiday Shop
We need a team of dedicated volunteers to help make this event a memorable one for our students. Please email CASHolidayShop@gmail.com if you are interested. We will need coordinators to help plan as well as “day-of” volunteers!
Ice Cream Social
We are still looking for volunteers to help with set-up, check-in and clean-up. Ice Cream Social Donations and Volunteer Opportunities
CAS Landscaping Team
Our CAS grounds may look effortless, but behind the scenes are people and parents who love to make the grounds look beautiful and inviting for our kids. Absolutely no gardening experience necessary! Click the link CAS Landscape Signup for more information about the event in October/November. Even one hour of your time would be helpful.
As a bonus, you may have the opportunity to bring home divisions of plants for your own flower garden!
P.S. The Landscape Committee is separate from the CAS Learning Garden who organizes the vegetable garden. Contact LandscapeCAS@gmail.com with questions.

Important: Bond Referendum
A very important vote is set to take place on December 12, 2023 regarding the proposed bond referendum for our School District. The buildings in our district require major updates in infrastructure as well as upgrades and improvements in our facilities. Please refer to this website for all information regarding the referendum. More information will be coming following the next Board of Education Meeting. MADISON REFERENDUM
