A Message from the Superintendent
Valley View Elementary School held its annual Career Day event this past Friday to finish off a spirited week of college and career activities. Over the course of the week, among the many fun activities, Valley View's students attended a College & Career Rally highlighted by singing their Classroom College victory chants, participated in Vehicle Career Day with professional drivers who brought their vehicles onto campus, and explored careers on their computers using TimeForKids. Then on Friday, the week concluded with Career Day. See our Student Ambassadors and our guests in the group picture below.
Thank you to all of our education partners throughout the week who made this event special for our students. Our twenty-seven community professionals who shared their education and career journeys deserve a huge THANK YOU for taking time out of their busy lives to spend with our students. Our student ambassadors hosted our guests and led the way. The Valley View Parent Teacher Organization, Counselor Mrs. Jaime, Assistant Principal Mr. Anaya, Principal Mrs. Vaughan and the entire Valley View team are to be commended for a job well done.
ALVORD EDUCATION FOUNDATION SPIRIT RUN
Thank you to all of our students and their parents and the many local runners and volunteers who participated in this past Saturday's Alvord Education Foundation (AEF) Spirit Run to raise money for scholarships. We had a huge turnout for the 5K run and 1M walk. Thank you Mr. Zack Earp for leading the AEF and thank you to Riverside City Council Members' Gaby Plascencia, Steve Hemenway, and Jim Perry for participating in the event and supporting our students. It was a great day!
HILLCREST HIGH STUDENTS EXPLORE RIVERSIDE
This past week, students from the school's Latinx Student Union and Ethnic Studies groups explored the culture and history of Riverside by visiting The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum, The Inland Civil Rights Institute, and the recently renovated Riverside Main Library.
If you haven't visited the Main Library yet, it's located at 3900 Mission Inn Avenue in downtown Riverside. The two-story library is approximately 42,000 square feet of innovative space that includes an archive reading room, children’s room, innovation center, outdoor terrace, and the Friends of the Riverside Public Library bookstore. With beautiful views of downtown and Mount Rubidoux, patrons can enjoy reading and study rooms, story time areas, laptop kiosks and wireless printing, self-checkout machines, and seating throughout this state-of-the-art facility. The Children’s Room welcomes families with bright colors, playful artwork, and a 30-foot-high skylight. The collection contains over 25,000 children’s books and an early learning section with toys to encourage imaginative play and tablets for interactive learning.
SCHOOL SAFETY WEEKLY UPDATE
This past Tuesday, at approximately 8:30 am, the Sheriff’s Department and partnering agencies responded to an adult in distress in the shopping area parking lot on Magnolia and Lincoln near Villegas Middle School. The situation was not related to anyone at Villegas Middle School nor did it compromise student safety. However, it is a reminder that if students walk to or from school they should always be aware of their surroundings and always walk in pairs or in groups. The area is in the Riverside County Sheriff's jurisdiction and they did a great job responding and securing the area. We work closely with the Sheriff's team serving our schools that are not served by the RIverside Police Department . We greatly appreciate both agencies for their safekeeping and commitment to support our students and schools.
IN CLOSING
On behalf of the Board of Education, thank you for choosing Alvord schools. We strive to be our very best, so that our students can be their very best.
In partnership,
Allan Mucerino
