November News

We began November with our Fall Book Fair! We had lots of fun picking out books to buy and take home to read. Thank you to all of our wonderful parents who volunteered to help in the Book Fair and who supported the library program by purchasing books for your students. What a win/win situation!. Kindergarten and first grade were learning about turkeys in their classrooms so we read some great books in the library as well. We read Turkey Tot which has a great lesson to learn about finding a problem and then finding a solution and never giving up! We then read I'm a Turkey! and practiced our gobble after watching The 21 Turkey Waltz and listening to a real turkey gobble!

Fourth grade talked about theme using the book The Little Red Pen and then we tried to compare the story to another folk tale we might know! Second grade talked about Veteran's Day and watched a Veteran's Day Rap! The week before Thanksgiving all classes read Balloons Over Broadway. This book tells about Tony Sarg and how he created the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the famous balloons that are showcased during the parade. We even watched a short clip of real footage from the parade in 1920 and 1930.

We also had a fun surprise author visit. Ronda Friend came to our school and presented a fun program to help us with some character traits like being honest.

I never feel lonely if I've got a book - they're like old friends. Even if you're not reading them over and over again, you know they are there. And they're part of your history. They sort of tell a story about your journey through life. Emilia Fox
