Beacon Bulletin
March 2019
Recap & Forecast
February was a restful month, allowing our student artists time to recharge and gear up for the coming months. Seniors gave their final portfolio presentations, and Java Jam was a much needed opportunity for our students to let loose and put their talents on display.
This month, Senior Capstone Film presentations will begin and Juniors will submit their portfolios. A talented group of Beacon student artists will compete in the annual Skills USA competition. SurveyWorks is available for families until March 25th.
The next couple of months there will be a focus on families and building relationships in our school community. Stay tuned!

Parent Pick-Up Coffee Hour
Starting March 6th, Mrs. Go will be hosting a Coffee Hour
Every Wednesday & Friday from 1:30 to 2:30pm, at Beacon.
Coffee Hour is designed for parents who pick up their students in the afternoon, and have to wait in their cars until school gets out. Mrs. Go will provide coffee, tea, water, and light snacks at no cost. This is a perfect time to sit, relax, chat, ask questions, and get to know other parents. All parents are welcome to attend, even if you're not waiting to pick up your student!
SurveyWorks for Families
Families, we need your help! Last year, we had very low family participation in SurveyWorks. SurveyWorks is an initiative organized by the Rhode Island Department of Education to gain insight and data regarding the culture, climate, and safety of schools statewide.
This year, we are hoping that all of our families will take a few minutes to participate. It is imperative that our families complete the survey so that we can analyze the data and make our school a better place. The survey is completely anonymous and only takes about 15 minutes to complete. Please see the attached flyer for more information about how you can participate in SurveyWorks. If you have any questions or concerns, email sbaffoni@beaconart.org. Thank you!

Exciting Grant News!
NSTA Shell Science Lab Challenge: Beacon's Science teachers, Ms. Cancel-Diaz and Ms. Rudio, went through an intensive application process to be considered for NSTA Shell Science Lab Challenge, in hopes of receiving funding to update Beacon's Science classrooms. We are thrilled to announce that Beacon was named the District winner, receiving $3000 dollars towards a Science Lab upgrade. This award will be super beneficial to our students and school community!
Beacon will now move on to the second round of the competition to be considered for one of four National Finalist positions, or the Grand Prize winner. Either award would bring Beacon even more funding and resources to improve our Science Labs. Congratulations to Ms. Cancel-Diaz and Ms. Rudio, and good luck in the second round!
