Students in 4th grade will participate in the Fulton county Sherrif's Department G.R.E.A.T., Gang Resistance Education and Training program over the next several weeks. For more information, http://www.fultonsheriff.org/community-outreach.html
As you may recall, WCES is a grant recipient of the Second Step program! All WCES students will participate in the Second Step Program during morning meetings and their Health blocks beginning next week as well.
The Second Step curriculum, developed by the Committee for Children, is a universal, classroom-based curriculum designed to promote children’s social and academic success by decreasing problem behaviors, increasing students’ school success, and promoting social-emotional competence and self-regulation. The curriculum aims to reduce impulsive and aggressive behaviors and increase protective factors and social-emotional competence. Organized by grade level, the program teaches children empathy, problem- solving skills, risk assessment, decision-making, and goal-setting skills. The Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum is classified as a universal intervention, meaning that it is appropriate for whole classrooms of children and not just those at risk. Second Step also complements the work of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and school climate.
The Bullying Prevention Unit (BPU) is designed to prevent bullying by changing multiple levels of the school ecology through intervention components that affect schools and classrooms, peer norms and behavior, and individual attitudes and skills. This optional unit builds upon the social-emotional skills taught through the Second Step Pre-K through 5th grade SEL curriculum to decrease physical bullying, malicious gossip and major fighting. The “Three R’s:” Recognize, Report and Refuse, are used to teach students, staff and teachers to better prevent bullying in the school environment.
The Child Protection Unit (CPU) is designed to address the multiple influences of parent, family, child, community, and environmental characteristics that can contribute to child abuse and neglect. The curriculum includes four elements of school-based child protection: policies/procedures, staff training, student lessons, and family education. The unit focuses on relatable, real-life scenarios and teaches students the “Three R’s:” Recognize, Respond, and Report. Schools implementing the Second Step SEL curriculum in grades Pre-K through 5th MUST also implement the CPU in the corresponding grades, through this funding opportunity.
We are looking forward to a great week!
Thanks for all you do! Let's Go Wolves!

Parents,
Please support our efforts in clearing past due lunch accounts. We have very high past due balances within the first 5 weeks of school. We are a full pay lunch and breakfast school site.

Uniforms! Thanks for your participation.
Safety First!
Thanks for your support! Traffic is moving more seamlessly. Thanks for working with us to ensure safety for the students.
We still need your patience and support as we execute the morning drop off process and afternoon pick up. The cafeteria doors close at 7:35 AM each morning. Breakfast ends at that time. Get them there early for breakfast!
Students are tardy at 7:41 AM. Parents are asked to sign their children in and get a tardy pass prior to reporting to class. Parents who wish to walk their child to class must also sign in at the front desk. So many of you have been awesome about being asked to return to the front desk to sign in. Thanks!
Please help us by using the car rider loop in the front of the building for all student drop-offs in the mornings. The car rider loop moves fast but it does require some wait time and patience. This is the safest area for student drop offs. We have assigned staff to support students as they get out of cars. The bus ramp in the back is reserved for buses only. If parents are using the parking lot near the bus ramp area for parking, they are asked to park their vehicles and escort their child into the building. Students should not be dropped off and allowed to run across the bus ramp to enter the building. We want students to be safe. We had a few cars moving fairly fast in this area. This is a safety concern. Remember, the doors open at 7:10 AM for student arrival. Thanks in advance for your support. If we have parents that can volunteer in the bus ramp area, please let us know. We could use the extra hands and eyes to ensure safety for the students.
Thanks for your support!
