Santan Quarterly Report
August 2015, 1st Quarter
Keep Calm & Storm On!
Letter from the "Editor"... Mrs. Kowalinski
Dear Santan Parents & Students:
Welcome to another great year at Santan Junior High School! As always, we will work hard to provide rigorous and innovative activities for our students. Teachers worked tenaciously to get ready for the new year. They are very excited about their new students and have some great "building community" activities for those first days of school.
Character Counts!
Santan Junior will continue our character education program entitled, "Character Counts!" Staff members will focus on one of the six pillars of character each month: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Perseverance and Citizenship. Quarterly breakfasts and positive rewards will help us celebrate all the conscientious students we work with each and every day.
Boosters - Go Storm!
BIG - BIG News! We are continuing our HIGH FIVE for TECHNOLOGY campaign this year. Our school year is to raise money for Chromebooks for our students. Please look for information coming home with your child to help with this vision in late September. Our incredible Boosters will continue to sell gift cards via the front office. Gift cards include all of your favorite restaurants, retail stores and entertainment venues. Each gift card that you purchase gives a 4-12% profit back to our school. It is fast, easy and convenient.
OPEN HOUSE/CURRICULUM NIGHT
Please join us on August 6 for curriculum overview and open house evening. You can attend either session. Session 1 is 5:30-6:40 & Session 2 is 6:45-7:55. Your child's team of teachers will provide important information for you collectively. We look forward to you being there!
I look forward to seeing you on campus as we plunge into another successful year!
Educationally yours,
BJ Kowalinski, Santan Jr. High Principal
ATTENTION PARENTS!!
Chandler Unified will be going paperless starting the 2015/16 school year. Progress reports and report cards can be printed from the parent portal.
http://www.cusd80.com/Domain/5058
Each parent is encouraged to activate their account at the start of the school year to assure that they are well informed of student progress. All school sites have a parent portal manager, MaryAnn Rezzonico, rezzonico.maryann@cusd80.com, should you require set-up assistance or have further questions. Portal accounts will allow parents to check their child's academic progress at any time during the school year.
****Payment for ALL extracurricular activity fees will be done online via the "Parent Portal" in Infinite Campus so please be sure you are enrolled****
In order to utilize tax credit monies the State of Arizona set forth a requirement that all school districts must charge a fee for enrolled students to participate in extracurricular activities. Primary guardians will need to continue to make payments through Infinite Campus so that the fees will link directly to their children and so they have a record of their payments. All other community members will be able to continue to utilize the third party online donation website. In addition to automating the fee collection process, both electronic fee payment systems help CUSD move towards becoming paperless.
Infinite Campus is currently the District’s best solution to automatically track extracurricular activity fees at an individual level. Moving to Infinite Campus provides parents with the convenience of making debit, credit or e-check payments and helps alleviate the work load for site administrative assistants and district staff since there is no longer a need to track fees manually for 28,000 students. Infinite Campus will significantly reduce employee overtime and allow employees to focus on other important tasks. While the third party donation website does allow designations to a student it will not link automatically to their account without a manual adjustment by staff. This is why parents are directed to Infinite Campus and all other community members use the third party donation system.
The $2 convenience fee is not creating a profit for the District or taking money away from the students but rather allows the District to provide a convenient payment system for parents and staff. While the District will be absorbing the majority of the processing costs the $2 fee will help offset part of these costs. Both Infinite Campus and the third party donation website will have a $2 convenience fee for all transactions.
The District is continuing to research ways to improve the fee collection process at a lower cost, but at this time, Infinite Campus offers the best solution. Moving forward, the District hopes to find a software system which allows all donations to be made through one system.
Please continue to check the Santan Junior High website and register for Schoolwires for important updates. You can also "like" us on Facebook (Santan Junior High) and Twitter (@SantanStorm).
