NEWSLETTER: January 27th, 2023

Road, Crit, MTB and Gravel race calendars are now online!

Exciting news! The start of the 2023 race calendar has officially begun. Registration for events will open soon but please make sure to keep checking the calendar, as more events will be added as we move forward into the season. Races are taking place in some of Ontario’s most stunning landscapes and terrains, and this year’s race season promises to be full of new challenges and excitement. With options ranging from charity rides to our entire Ontario Cup race series and plenty of regional events, there is something for everyone – from beginner cyclists to experienced riders – so don’t miss out on the opportunity to challenge yourself at a local OC Sanctioned Event.

OC sanctioned events vs non-sanctioned events

There are many exciting events available to cyclists in Ontario, across all disciplines and levels. While many of these events are well organized and safe, it is still important to educate yourself on the level of risk while participating in these events. From local cycling club events to large scale events, it is important to understand your coverage from an insurance standpoint, but also know that the event you are attending is utilizing industry best practices.

Personal Accident Extension Coverage is available

Did you know that with your OC membership, you have access to Ontario Cycling’s core Sports Liability ($10M per occurrence) and Sport Accident ($50,000) insurance coverage through Gallagher Insurance. This insurance coverage is there for you while participating in OC sanctioned activities, such as an OC affiliated club ride or a provincially sanctioned race. With this member benefit, you can safely participate in OC sanctioned activities with peace of mind knowing that OC’s coverage is there in case something should occur. The Sport Accident insurance can help cover things such as physiotherapy and other medical bills which may occur due to injury during a sanctioned activity.

Ontario Cyclist with success at 2023 National Championships

Ontario cyclists had a successful showing at the National Championships over the weekend. With numerous podium performances, Ontario athletes displayed the impact of having access to a world class velodrome. Many of the elite athletes were only 11 years old when the velodrome first opened and it has been exciting to watch athletes learn to ride the track, develop through club and provincial programs, and now be capturing national championship medals (and international medals).

Club Operations Advisory Committee

Ontario Cycling is launching a Club Operations Advisory Committee which will work collaboratively with the OC Management Team to develop best in practices resources and strategies to address the needs of cycling clubs delivering all levels of cycling programming across all disciplines.

The membership sign-up for the upcoming 2023 season is now available on the Ontario Cycling website. “The OC Team is really looking forward to 2023, as we have been hard at work planning new and exciting events and projects for the upcoming season. Our membership is one of the areas we have focused our attention on, and 2023 will see the start of some of those changes as we work on elevating cycling to the next level in the province”, says Pam Julian, President & CEO.

Newly Designed ID Cards

A new option available to every OC member this upcoming season is the ability to purchase a personal member ID card when signing up for their 2023 Ontario Cycling membership.

These newly designed hard plastic ID cards are available for all members who purchase an Associate Club Membership, Provincial Race License or Mini Membership for the price of $12 and will be mailed when the new membership is processed.
