School Counselor Update

Highland High School- April 2020

AP Testing

AP testing will be very different this year. Please see the email from Mrs. Spaeth regarding your new testing dates, times and procedures. It's important that you can access the email address you used to create your college board account.

Registration for 2020-2021

Counselors are working to finalize student schedules for next year. We hope to contact current juniors regarding their senior schedules over the next few weeks.

All other students will receive their schedule in August. Schedule changes will ONLY occur the first three days of school. Changes can only be made if a student did not request the scheduled course. Level changes require approval from teacher and parent.

Illinois Career Information System is a great website to start your career and college search.

1. Select the IL Resident Folder on the bottom right

2. Enter your city and zipcode under IL residents

3. Hover over the "Assessments" folder and use any of the tools under "how do my interests relate to occupations" on the right hand side

There are a lot of fun tools including a reality check and skills inventories available on this website.

Summer School Info

We are hopeful that Driver's Education and English can be offered this summer at HHS.

Students who are interested in Driver's Education must turn 15 on or before 07/01/20. Seating is limited.

English is a great opportunity for students who need to recover credit.

Registration information will be available on the HHS website as soon as everything is finalized. Watch for emails, social media posts and the school website for updated info:

Help us virtually celebrate everyone's future plans- career, college, academic, athletic, apprenticeships, enlistment or employment! Seniors post pictures of you with a college t-shirt, your American flag, army boots, hard hat or whatever you can find to creatively announce your plans. We are so proud of you and want to celebrate. Email photos to Mr. Houchins- to be posted on our schools facebook page. Post those photos on May 1st to your social media accounts and use #HHSEEE

Thousands of scholarship dollars are awarded in April and May. Winners are reminded to take a minute to hand write a Thank You note to those scholarship committees and sponsors. HHS students are extremely lucky to have a supportive community that values the diversity in our student population- there is money available to everyone. If you need help on what to write please email your school counselor.
