Next I-Connect Meeting to Focus on Grades March 8th 8:30-10AM at Chinook
Grades Will Be Focus of Next I-Connect Meeting
Are you interested in your child’s grades? All parents and caregivers are invited to the next I-Connect meeting, Tuesday, March 8, 8:30-10:00 a.m. in the Chinook Choir Room, where the topic will be: “How We Think About Grades: The Continuing Evolution.” Our guest speaker: Eric Ferguson, Director of Teaching and Learning for the Bellevue School District (BSD).
The way teachers evaluate and grade schoolwork has never remained static. Practices and philosophies have changed over time. Join us for a discussion on current thoughts and trends in grading. Learn about the work of the BSD advisory committee currently examining the issue. What changes might be on the horizon? We’ll look at the impacts of COVID lockdown, virtual learning, and the focus on equity.
Come catch up with old friends or make some new ones. Share your thoughts and ask questions. Masks are required.
What is Chinook I-Connect? Chinook I-Connect is an award-winning PTSA program that connects new and existing parents/guardians to build relationships, foster participation, and strengthen our school community. With this in mind, I-Connect puts together informal, monthly meetings that focus on topics that are relevant to the middle school parent community, such as education, parenting, diversity, and community. We believe that by meeting face-to-face, sharing our experiences and thoughts, and giving each other tips and advice, we will strengthen and enhance our Chinook family. These are casual meetings, and you can choose to attend one, a couple, or all the meetings. Bring a friend and spread the word! Chinook Questions? Contact Sharon Pang (chair) iconnect@chinookptsa.org

Mariner field trip-stay tuned-we hope the strike doesn't affect this
We don't have all the details yet but wanted you to see something to look forward to for field trips. The trip is a bit spendy ($25-30-lunch included) so we want you to make sure you get details early. Lunch, a weather lesson from Komo 4, and an afternoon game will be included. The day will be longer and pick-ups from Chinook will be around 4-4:30PM instead of earlier that day. Mark your calendar, we will need chaperones. At least one per advisory.
Resilience Classes-TUESDAYS 4-5 PM online
Bellevue School District counselors, with support from members of the district Mental Health Assistance Team (MHAT), will soon offer middle and high school students an opportunity to engage in a virtual 7-week Resilience Class series. Classes begin the second week of March and will take place once a week (on Tuesdays for middle schoolers and Thursdays for high school students) from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Each week, students will learn and practice skills which will better equip them to tolerate distress, manage negative emotions, create positive emotions, and advocate for themselves. As they go through the program, students will develop a personalized resilience toolbox of skills and strategies.
Families are encouraged to discuss how a student can benefit by attending this course but students are asked to register themselves. For questions, students and families are welcome to contact members of the MHAT team: Layne Barker, MHAT Counselor, barkerk@bsd405.org, or Melissa Odegaard, MHAT Counselor, odegaardm@bsd405.org.
