Autism Awareness Fundraiser
Dear Prestwick Families and Friends,
We will be holding our annual fundraiser next week and this year it will be a coin drive in support of Autism Awareness, and the money we collect will be donated to the Dallas Autism Treatment Centre (ATC). This center focuses on changing lives and building futures. Their program is available for children of all ages and adults
The services include Education, Adult services, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), ATC therapy- ATC therapy is occupational, physical, speech and residential services.
Their residential service operates16 group homes in the Dallas area. ATC also promotes Community Awareness by participating in several informative events each year about Autism and the ATC
Students are invited to bring coins or bills to their classroom from Tuesday to Friday and put their donation into the collection buckets that will be placed in each grade level.
Also, students and staff are encouraged to WEAR BLUE on Wednesday April 4th.
Thank you for supporting this worthy cause.
If you have any questions please contact the school nurse, Julie Buchanan.
Prestwick LEarns - We learn better together
Our staff collaborate on a regular basis in order to improve our best practices as a campus. We meet weekly to dig into what students need to know, how we will assess and determine if the learned it and most importantly what we will do if any students did not learn it or already know it. We call this collaboration process professional learning communities and we dedicate time so that we do not let other things interfere with this time.
Our learners may not define learning together as "collaboration" because it is simply what we do. They share ideas as they work on project during project based learning time. It isn't about creating a product but learning together and teaching one another as they research. Students collaborate as they work in small groups in Math and Reading. During these workshop times they listen to one another, discuss unique learning strategies and learn about what others do to learn best. The simple act of reading together opens up new journeys to new places together.
The true power for our learners is that they are cultivating the skill set to successfully work side by side with diverse groups of others to achieve a common goal. This is not an easy thing to do. It involves negotiating conflict and learn the art of compromise. There will be times when it doesn't go well but taking these are chances to build everyone's capacity to do better next time.
I can't wait to see what collaboration I will see this week throughout the learning areas of Prestwick STEM Academy!

Staff Spotlight
Howdy, Lobos!
PSA is excited to introduce and welcome one of our 1st grade teachers, Mrs. Ashley Newman. Mrs. Newman was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, but was raised in Plano, Texas. She graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood Interdisciplinary Studies. This is Mrs. Newman’s ninth year of teaching and first year here with us at PSA. Prior to coming to PSA, Mrs. Newman taught in Frisco ISD for four years as well as Friends and Christ, a Private Kinder/Pre-K program in Frisco, for four years.
What Mrs. Newman loves about teaching 1st grade is being able to witness student’s academic growth throughout the year. For Mrs. Newman, the excitement is seeing her students’ reaction to reaching their end-of-year reading goals, especially for her struggling kiddos. “I love the detective work it takes to identify students’ academic needs in order to support each student to reach their goals.”
Mrs. Newman is married to her wonderful husband, Zack, of 10 years and they have two beautiful daughters, Lilah and Lola. In Mrs. Newman’s free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants and listening to live music. An interesting fact about Mrs. Newman that you may not know is that she enjoys singing and was once a recording artist.
PSA is happy to have Ms. Newman as part of our family!

LPGA Event @ Old American Golf Club
Local residents & businesses often ask us how they can get involved and make a positive difference in our schools. Here's a chance to give back to your community and directly impact kids' lives.
The Little Elm ISD Education Foundation provides grants to teachers and scholarships to graduating seniors thanks to the generosity of local citizens and businesses. The Foundation has been given the incredible opportunity to earn a substantial amount of money that will go directly back to LEISD teachers and students.
We need volunteers to help park cars at the upcoming LPGA Event at the Old American Golf Club on Monday, April 30 through Sunday, May 6. We need anyone age 16+ with a valid driver's license. If you or someone you know can spare some time on those dates it would greatly benefit the Foundation's efforts.
Please feel free to share this information in newsletters or other means to help spread the word. We need a lot of help to make this opportunity a reality. Please contact Dr. Tony Tipton at ttipton@littleelmisd.net, 903-239-3475 (cell) for more information or details.
