SCSD Family Message for 3-12-21
Friday Family Message
Good Afternoon Families,
It has been exactly one year since we closed our schools to in-person learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent outbreak in our community. Snohomish County data is showing a rise of COVID transmission in our community. This can have an impact on school transmissions. Please do not send your child(ren) to school if any member of your family has the following symptoms: Fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea. The districts and schools are relying heavily on families’ adherence to this requirement to keep everyone in our school community safe.
Families have asked when we might be able to bring elementary students back for more days or more time. The DOH guidelines still require students and staff to maintain a 6 foot social distance while at school. This requirement limits the number of students that can be in any given classroom. Until this requirement is lifted or changes, we are at capacity in our schools. We do not have the classroom space to increase the number of days.
We have just completed our first week with all grade levels back for some in-person learning. What a thrill to be able to have our high school students and staff together in a brand new building. High school athletic competitions have also resumed for the first time in a year following the guidelines outlined by the WIAA, Department of Health, and county health districts.
The superintendent search process is in full swing. Community forums and focus groups have been held over the last couple of days. All staff, families, and community members have an opportunity to take a survey to inform the district about the personal attributes and qualities they would like to see in the next leader of the Stanwood-Camano School District. The Stakeholder’s Survey is still open and all families are encouraged to participate. If you prefer to complete the survey in hard copy, forms are available at the district office at 26920 Pioneer Highway in Stanwood. A drop box is available to submit the form.
