Note from the Principal
Hello Elmwood Students and Families!
It has been a busy week here at Elmwood as students have been focusing and putting in their best effort on the NWEA and DIBLES tests. This testing will continue into next week so please make sure your student is getting a good night's sleep and eating a healthy breakfast.
Please note there is NO SCHOOL next Monday, January 16th as we take the day to honor the great Martin Luther King. Also, next week on Thursday, January 18th the rescreening for hearing will be happening for students who were absent.
If you have had changes in address, email and/or phone please make sure to go into your PowerSchool account and update the needed changes. This is super important so that we can stay in-touch with you.
There are many wonderful opportunities continuing and coming to Elmwood. The Michigan Stage Theater Program is returning for our second semester. Please make sure to register at the link below. Lego Robotics, Anime, Science Olympiad and Walking Club will be starting shortly. If your student is interested, please have them ask for the application in the front office and we will be sure to get them one.
Check out the PTA section below to read the minutes from the last meeting and catch up on all the fun activities that they have planned. The Fun Fest Committee will be meeting on January 28th at 1PM at Gilberts Restaurant. Please join them to help plan out all of the fun.💃🕺 Also, save the date for the K.I.S.S. dance, scheduled for February 10th at Elmwood.
Elmwood's Student Council is having a fundraiser. This coming week they will be selling Smencils for $1 each. Click here to check out the flyer for more information.
This month Elmwood students are focusing on PERSEVERANCE and sticking with challenging activities. Check out the Character Strong section for the family newsletter(s) to continue the conversation at home.
Lastly, please note students go outside for recess unless the temperature is below 20 degrees and/or it is raining. Please make sure that students have a warm jacket, hat and gloves. ❄️
Warmly,
Mrs. Bowersox, Ed.S 💛💙

Getting to School
Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders
- We want to encourage our students and families to cross California and the surrounding streets safely. It is important to use the crosswalks and crossing guards available.
- It helps the flow of traffic if your child is ready to exit the car.
- Parents should stay in the car, to keep the drop-off line moving!
- There is NO Parking, dropping and/or stopping in front of the school on California. When this is done it prevents the busses from traveling safely and it causes quite a jam. There are signs up and police will ticket persons who are there.
- The front loop is ONLY for Busses.
- Parents may use the West Parking Lot/Loop to Stop and Drop their student(s).
- There is NO Left Turn out of the West Parking Lot/Loop.
- Parents may park on Malvern on the East side of school and/or on Alice on the West side of the school to walk their student to their entry door.
Lastly, please be mindful of school hours and do not drop off your children prior to 8:15. At 8:15 there should be a staff member outside to supervise them. 💛💙
Absences and/or Late Arrivals
If your child will be absent or late, please contact the office to let us know. You can either call the attendance line @ (586-435-1150) or email Mrs. Baker. When leaving a message, please state the child's name, teacher's name, date of absence and reason for absence (i.e. child is ill with fever, cough, etc.)
Be sure to order a Hot Lunch if they will be late and need a lunch. Orders must be in by 8:50 AM Thank you!!
