Principals' Message
Hello Rockledge Families,
It is crazy to think that we are just one month away from the last day of school, June 15th. We have lot of fun planned and learning experiences to deploy over the next month. There are many upcoming events and updates noted below.
Rockledge has been designated as a Title I school, effective July 1st. This status is a part of the Federal Title I program that ensures resources are provided to schools that have demonstrated higher percentages of families in financial need. The intent is to ensure that resources are available to support the success of ALL children. To learn more about what the Title I program is, click here. We are excited by this designation as it will provided additional personnel, specifically a Math Resource Teacher to support student learning. We will also have the opportunity to plan for additional family engagement events to strengthen the Home-School connection.
Our Rockledge Staff wants to give a huge THANK YOU to the PTA and all families. Each of you played an important role in making sure our entire staff felt appreciated during Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week. It is an honor to serve the Rockledge Community.
Every Child...Every Day...We are Rockledge!
Your Principal & Assistant Principal,
Mrs. Steptoe-Coleman
Mrs. Everett

Crossing Guard Updates
Due to the milling and paving operations occurring in numerous locations in Lake Ridge, crossing guards are experiencing delays in arriving at their second crossings in the mornings and afternoons.
As always, the safety of the children who walk to and from school is our priority. If there is no crossing guard at your child’s crossing at the normal time, they are on the way. Any unaccompanied child should always wait for a crossing guard to arrive.

A Parent's Guide to Section 504 in Public Schools
Thursday, May 19, 2022 – 7 p.m. via Zoom
Participants will develop a conceptual understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, a federal civil rights law which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. As a recipient of federal funds, public schools are required to provide equal access to educational programs, services, and activities to students with disabilities.
This session will review the definition of a disability under this section of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and how it differs from disabilities as defined under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Parents will also learn about the provisions and protections afforded to individuals who qualify as students with a disability under this federal civil rights law.
