KCSD & Me: COVID-19 metrics update
December 4, 2020
Dear KCSD families,
Updated at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 to include latest Klamath County Public Health data..
As we complete our first week of comprehensive district learning districtwide, we wanted to share with you updated reopening date possibilities.
Our county’s COVID-19 case rates have continued to increase since Thanksgiving. This week Klamath County Public Health has recorded 255 new cases, putting the county over the required metrics that would allow us to return students to classrooms before winter break. This means the earliest Klamath County School District could reopen to in-person instruction would be Jan. 4.
To transition to in-person learning, the number of new cases in the county needs to be under 68 over a two-week period and the test positivity rate needs to be less than 8%.
When metrics allow, the district plans to phase in the return of students to in-person instruction. K-3 students, SPED, and students attending under Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) would return first. We would then transition in 4-12 students under our in-person hybrid model.
We will continue to update our staff and families as we receive new information and metric updates. Meanwhile, please continue to do your part to reopen our schools – wear a face covering, stay home when you are sick, maintain physical distance from others, and limit social gatherings.
Respectfully,
Glen Szymoniak
Superintendent
Klamath County School District
