Study Skills
4th and 5th Graders
Independent Time
Every Monday, the 4th and 5th graders will be meeting with Mrs. Scott to learn about different Study Skills. In the beginning, the students will be focusing on how they manage their time efficiently. They will prioritize items on their schedules and set personal goals. The students will also learn about different test taking strategies.
Week One
Prioritizing
Today we focused on prioritizing. We began our discussion by sharing two different cartoons and discussing what happened with the characters. Then we were given a list of tasks that a student may have, and we had to collaborate with a partner to prioritize the list from what was the most important to the least important. After the students shared their prioritized lists, they began brainstorm their individual list. Our goal is that next week the students will bring home a weekly schedule of everything they need to do at home in an orderly and prioritized format. They are going to share their prioritized schedules with you, so that you can have a discussion about what they need to do versus what they want to do every night.
Whole Group Sharing
Students are sharing how they prioritized the given items.
What do you think?
Working together to decide what should come first and is most important.
Agreeing with our Partner
These students easily agreed with what items were most important.
Making Final Changes
These students changed the order of their items as they shared them aloud and gave more thought.
What do I do?
Using the notes app to create a list of every night activities.
To Do List
It is important to make a list of everything you have to do first before you try to prioritize!
