Team Spotlight!

Each month, we would like to take a moment to “Shine a Light” on our amazing teams at Keith! In this edition of the Cougar Connection, we want to share a little bit about our Special Education and Specialists Team!

Special Education and Specialists

Keith Elementary is blessed with remarkable interventionists who support all of our Cougars. While some primarily serve students in special education and others focus on students with other specific intervention needs, this team truly believes in supporting every student who walks through the doors of Keith Elementary. Mrs. Clements shared, “These staff members are a blessing to all of our students. They are diligent about finding every student’s passion and helping them reach their potential.” The experience in this team is astounding! They have a combined total of 192 years of experience in education, and three of the members on this team have served at Keith Elementary since it opened in 2004. They are committed to the success of each and every Keith Cougar. Although each staff member on this team is unique, they mesh well together and collaborate beautifully for the success of our Keith students.

Valentine's Day Card Exchange

This year, we will allow our students to exchange Valentine's Day cards with their classmates at the end of the day on 2/14/22. Students may bring cards and/or small, pre-packaged, store-bought treats to give to their classmates. Each student will take home a bag/box with the valentines they received from friends and classmates. Students will not be permitted to eat their treats at school.

Kinder Valentine's Day Program

We look forward to inviting our Kindergarten parents to visit for a Valentine's Day Program and activity on 2/14/22. A pre-registration link will be sent out through SchoolMessenger to our Kindergarten families. See the schedule below for the time your child's homeroom performs.

Reminders from the Attendance Office

Excused Absences

Please remember to provide a note for the Attendance Office from a parent/guardian for each absence within three (3) days of the student’s return to school. This note is to include student’s full legal name, date(s) of the absence, reason for absence, and signature of parent/legal guardian. A doctor’s note can also be accepted and should include the student’s full legal name, date(s) of the absence, and signature.

Tardies:

Students who arrive after the 8:40AM bell rings are tardy. Parents must come into the front office to sign their child in and the student will receive a tardy slip and be sent to class.

Credit by Exam Information

Students in grades K-5 will have four opportunities during the school year to use “credit-by-exam” to accelerate to another grade level. Students will only have one opportunity to test for each grade level considered.

To apply to take the test to skip kindergarten, a student must be 5 by September 1, and registered in a CFISD school. To apply to take the test to skip grade 1, a student must be 6 by September 1, and enrolled in a CFISD school.

Students who earn scores of 80% or better on each component of the credit-by-exam will qualify to advance one grade. Only one grade level may be “skipped” each year. No retests will be given.
