Team Rodney, Touched by an Angel!
A special thank you to Rep. Cindy Burkett, for attending the October general association meeting. Those in attendance left with a clear overview of the seven propositions up for consideration on Nov. 3rd. In addition, Representative Burkett has graciously become a Platinum Angel, joining every PTA in the district! Rodney would like to remind everyone that voting is a privilege, so research your precinct number and voting location, so you are prepared on voting day.
Angels Update
Recognized at the October general meeting were our special Membership Angels. Membership Chair Kathy Parks (left) holds a plaque for Platinum Angel Jody Luna (absent), followed by Platinum Angel Dr. Linda Chance, Bronze Angel Rodney Rowan (also representing Bronze Angel Jonathan's Place and Silver Angel Dr. Gayle Smith) , Bronze Angel Judy Kriehn, (also representing her Bronze Angel-dog, Sasha), and Bronze Angel Dr. Ramona Aguilar.
Reflections Contest
The theme for this year's Reflections contest is, "Let Your Imagination Fly". As a reminder to all local units, dues to Council in the amount of $50.00 must have been received by Oct. 15th, to be eligible to participate. In addition, Texas PTA is requiring that each entry must come from a household where at least 1 person is a PTA member in good standing. Don't miss out on the fun and excitement of participating in Reflections!
Outstanding PTAs
Jody Luna, Outstanding PTA Chair, threw down the gauntlet looking for creative submissions for Outstanding PTA nominees. Naaman Forest High School answered the call with a membership themed remake of the 80's hit, Sweet Dreams, by the Eurythmics. If you missed the October general association meeting, Dr. Aguilar (pictured, right) sang the first verse while presenting the awards on Jody's behalf. Great job, Dr. Crump of Naaman Forest, and kudos to Dr. Aguilar, as well!
Chairman Chatter
- Arts in Education Chair Sharon Wainscott reminds readers that individual and Council dues had to be paid by Oct. 15th, in order to participate in Reflections! Turn in your entries at the Harris Hill Admin building on 12/4 from 3:30-7:00PM and 12/5 from 8:30-10:00AM. Reflection chairmen at the local level are invited to contact Sharon regarding serving in this capacity. Mark your calendars now for the January 7, 2016 reception, at the Curtis Culwell Center, from 6:00-8:00PM.
- Parent Education/Volunteer Chair Dr. Ramona Aguilar reminds parents and educators of the Texas PTA Ready, Set, Achieve program, a great resource if you are looking for Parent Education programs for your local association meetings!
- Jody Luna continues to look for unique and creative nominees for Outstanding PTA Awards. Deadline for entries in November will be 11/20, due to the Holiday Break.
- Environmental Chair Joe Luna will be launching Soles for Souls as the Council's environmental project. Start collecting gently used shoes, and let's repurpose what our kids have out grown.
