Lots of stuff... May is going to be a busy month!

Forgive the blast with tons of info... But just to keep you all informed and in the loop!

Health Test on Friday May 9th

Reminder from Ms. Chun's email: "Our class will be taking their Health test with Mrs. Melzer this Friday, the 9th. They've been working on the stages of life as well as body parts and systems, i.e. digestive, skeletal, muscular, circulatory, respiratory, nervous. They created books with Mrs. Melzer the last time they met so they can use that to prepare for the body parts and systems portion of the test."

Field Trip Monday May, 11th

Again, from Ms. Chun: "We are taking our last bus field trip to the Natural History Museum on Monday, May 11. On this field trip, our 2nd graders will get to visit the Butterfly Pavilion in lieu of our butterfly life cycle unit. They have learned in-depth the 4 different life stages our butterflies go through with their very own butterflies in class and now will have the opportunity to view them in their semi-natural habitats at the Butterfly Pavilion. It's an exciting learning experience for our students and they really enjoy this part of the trip every year! The field trip slips will be going out tomorrow so please sign them and have them returned asap. If you are available to chaperone, please let me know. Spaces are limited so it'll be on a first-come, first-serve basis."

HALL OF HEROES: READ CAREFULLY!!! 5-6 pm for family & friends!

Again, from Ms. Chun: "As stated in the flyer sent home a few weeks ago, Hall of Heroes will take place on Friday, May 15. Please invite family and friends to this celebratory event as we commemorate our national heroes in a fun, engaging, and dynamic way. On the day of the Hall of Heroes, please send your child with their costumes IN A BAG on the day of the event. They will present their heroes to the student body after lunch and will need their costumes.

The Hall will be open to family and friends in the evening between 5-6pm. If your child goes to STAR, I'll pick them up from STAR and get them changed in time for the event. If you can pack them an extra snack that day to have right before the event that'd be helpful. If your child does not go to STAR, please plan on bringing them back to school dressed in their costumes by 4:45pm so that they have enough time to get settled in their places."

First Ever WeHo Elementary Pop-Up Art Gallery May 13th!

Friends of West Hollywood Elementary (FOWHE), Voila! Studio and the arts committee is excited to announce our first ever, one night only "pop-up art gallery" fine arts exhibit and sale on Weds., May 13th at Voila! Studio (518 N. La Brea, between Melrose and Beverly) from 4-8 pm. Up for sale will be incredible donated works by notable artists, photographers, and LA street artists, as well as classroom art that the kids from West Hollywood have created. Donated art will be for sale at incredible prices, and we are overwhelmed by the generosity of the artists who have contributed. The evening will be casual and fun - with live music, a museum style pop-up shop filled with something at every price point, free drinks (donations welcome) and food. Best part? All of the proceeds go right back to our kids to help fund important programs that LAUSD no longer pays for - PE, teacher aides, music, art, field trips, assemblies and more. Please go to our facebook page for more info, as well as let us know you're coming!

And, check out the website to see the list of all artists who have donated so far and please check out their pages because we are so grateful to them!

Apple Fitness Challenge, May 22

We need an infusion of money every year in order to support the existing equipment, pay for tech support, and train teachers, and Apple Fitness has been a fun event we've done in the past that the kids really like. Please TRY to get 10 pledges of $20 each in order to reach the $50,000 overall goal. Permission slips are REQUIRED in order to participate. Permission slips AND pledge sheets are due MAY 15th!!!

All materials should have been sent home in your child's folder, but if not, you can find here:

Forms can go back to teachers or there will be a box in the office.

We will need about 30 volunteers to do things like setup and run the fitness events from 8:30 - 11:30 that day. We will send out a sign-up genius closer to the event.

Spring Concert

Each grade will be performing songs from different countries for this year's Spring Concert. The concert was scheduled for May 27 (Wed.) but may be changed to May 29 (Friday). More details to follow... and costume info as well!
