October
Irving Elementary
Happy Bosses Day Mr. Everett!
Kindergarten Learning-Mrs. Goyer, Mrs. Goering, Ms. Lewis
October is a busy month for Kindergarten! We are getting ready to start learning about shapes in both reading and math. The next few weeks will be filled with lots of activities so we can explore different shapes around us at school, at home, and in our community. This will be our project based learning unit for the semester and in November we will finish our unit with a shapes project.
Every Monday and Thursday, kindergarten students attend Spanish class with Me. Conover for 30 minutes. The kids love this time and have already learned how to say “good morning”, play Simon Says, and tell someone their name in Spanish. We can’t wait to see what else we learn in Spanish this year!
On Fridays, we play Tenzi during MTSS Math. The kids love competing against each other playing this fun dice game. They love it so much that we will be having a Tenzi tournament each month. At the end of the month, winners from each kindergarten class will compete against each other for the top prize! We will have a new tournament each month.
At the end of this month, we will be utilizing the outdoor classroom and playground for our very own pumpkin patch! Each kindergarten student will be able to go out and “pick” their own pumpkin to take home. There will also be pumpkin themed activities and games for students to experience.
We are having a great fall in kindergarten and are looking forward to all of the exciting things ahead in October!

PTO News
We have purchased a new sound system for the school to use at assemblies, meetings etc. The kindergarten class is hosting their own pumpkin patch here at the school and we voted to purchase apple cider, hot chocolate popcorn and games for the classes to enjoy.
We also purchased bags and glow sticks for the students on Halloween night.
Red ribbon week is the 25th-29th. There will be fun dress up days for your kids to participate in (a flyer will be sent home) and bracelets have been purchased for the students as well.
Looking ahead. Fliers will be coming home for your student to purchase TURKEY GRAMS for others at the school. The cost will be $1 each, they will have a little note with a sucker attached. These will be handed out before we leave for Thanksgiving break.
We will also be needing volunteers for the Penguin Patch December 6th-10th. A Sign Up Genius will be posted on the PTO and Irving Facebook pages soon. We have also adopted a family for Christmas, the information will be posted next month if you wish to make any donations! Thank you so much for your support of Irving and your students.
Next PTO meeting is: November 8th, at 6:00 in the Irving library.
