English Department
Students in Mr. Sabbagh’s English 12 class reviewed the Hero’s Journey and applied the “clock-like” steps to a modern-day hero, which helped to further show students the archetypes that exist in not only literature but in all types of media. In addition to providing academic instruction, teachers in the department dedicate time with social and emotional learning to build strong relationships with students. Teachers utilize weekly check-in Google forms, one-on-one conferences, or assignments such as “Who Am I?” that allow more personal interaction and dialogue throughout the school year, but also during Support Wednesdays. Mrs. Jacobson has students reflect on their identities and incorporate items/things that represent who they are in a creative manner while also incorporating a writing element in order to establish a strong classroom climate through the “Who Am I?” project. One-on-one conferences conducted in all of Mrs. Vasey’s classes allow her to individually review MLA formatting, review writing, and essays, and clarify reading and concepts that students may be struggling with while also checking in on what may be affecting the completion of assignments.
The English Department works with students to provide them with opportunities to achieve academic success, improving on their reading and writing skills while also establishing an environment where students can thrive socially and challenge themselves to grow as individuals.

Weekly Wellness
Can you believe finals are in 2 weeks (next week for seniors)? How are you doing in your classes? How are you doing personally? Use this time to reflect on what you’re doing well and what you can improve on - both academically and personally as both are connected. You have to take care of yourself to be able to thrive in all aspects of your life. Remember to give yourself and others grace (especially during the next couple of weeks). This week’s activity is a coloring activity to help you relax and prepare for the next grading period. Enjoy!
