UCSD SASEA at Bobier- FREE Covid Testing for Students and Staff On Campus!

UCSD - SASEA

We are excited to collaborate with UCSD on the Safer at School Early Alert System, also known as SASEA. SASEA is an early alert monitoring system for COVID-19 through daily wastewater and surface samples. In order to keep our community informed and working together to prevent the spread of Covid, we will be sending out a weekly summary of the study findings as part of our school S’More. In addition, students and staff that are identified as being inside the room where the positive surface swab was taken will receive an additional notification.

What Does a Positive Wastewater or Surface Sample Mean?

A positive surface or wastewater swab might indicate that an individual may be shedding the virus on campus. This means that we should take a closer look by doing nasal swab testing.

What Are the Next Steps?

If you would like your child to join the SASEA project, you can consent here: https://redcap.link/saseaconsenteng. The more students and staff who join the study, the more accurate our efforts become to keep our school safe from the virus. UCSD will continue to collect daily wastewater and surface samples. Response testing will happen:

1. When only wastewater is positive, we will come to the school/childcare to test all consenting staff and students.

2. When a surface swab is positive, we will come to the school/childcare to test all consenting staff and students in the room with the positive swab

The UCSD SASEA Study is an opportunity for our community to take a proactive approach to preventing the spread of Covid-19 and safely reopening schools. As a reminder to all of our community, please continue to stay safe by maintaining physical distance from others, wearing a mask, and checking daily for symptoms. Any student who is experiencing symptoms, should not come to school.

We all need to work together to keep all of our students safe. If you or your family is under quarantine orders through the county, please STAY HOME and do not come into a school office to advise your child is absent. We will return your call as soon as possible.

We will continue to ensure that safety is a top priority at Bobier Elementary. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
