Financial Aid and College - California Colleges Guidance Initiative (CCGI)
Did you know that you can complete your FAFSA application through your student Californiacolleges.edu account? See the video below to assist you in completing your application.
FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It’s how U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens get money for college, including:
- Federal financial aid, like grants, work-study, or loans.
- State financial aid, like the Cal Grant.
- Some school-based financial aid, like scholarships or grants given out by colleges.
Fill out the FAFSA even if you’re not sure you’ll get financial aid. Each year, almost 90,000 California students miss out on major grant money because they choose not to fill out the FAFSA--don’t be one of them!
When should you fill out the FAFSA?
- You can fill out your FAFSA online starting October 1 of your senior year in high school.
- Be sure to apply by the March 2 Cal Grant deadline so you can be considered for this big state grant.
- Your college may have earlier deadlines for school-based awards. Check with the financial aid office.

Terra Nova's Woodshop Pathway
It’s 2021, and women make up only about 10% of construction industry workers, even though they are 47% of the overall U.S. workforce. Although they are still a minority in the industry, they are making strides to break down barriers and become more of an influence in construction trades. Mr. Spinetti has worked to change the gender composition of his classes and encourages female students to enroll in the wood technology courses offered at Terra Nova. According to Indeed.com, the average salary for a journeyman carpenter is $32.44 per hour in San Francisco Bay Area, CA, and $10,406 overtime per year. JUHSD is dedicated to offering CTE pathways that prepare students for careers with a living wage.
