Kindergarten Registration and Round-Up Event

Thursday, March 7th, 6:30-7:30pm

Hawthorne Gym

It's time to start planning for next year's Kindergarten class of students! Our Kindergarten Round Up and Visit will be combined into one family-friendly event this year, on Thursday, March 7 at 6:30 p.m. in our Hawthorne Gym. Kindergarten students should plan on attending with their parents. The evening will follow this schedule:

6:15 p.m. - Doors open: please enter at door 1 or door 14.

6:30 p.m. - All families should go to the gym first for introductions and a brief presentation; incoming Kindergarten students will then visit the Kindergarten classrooms with the Kindergarten teachers and staff, while parents stay in the gym for further presentations and a tour of the school.

7:00 p.m. - Parents reunite with their children in the Kindergarten classrooms and time to drop off paperwork or ask our office staff about documentation and paperwork requirements for Kindergarten registration.

Registration packets are now available in our office for pick up; please contact our office NOW to be added to our planning list (630) 682-2065; it is strongly suggested you begin the paperwork now and turn it in before this event on March 7 to avoid the possible long lines.

Reading Event at Hawthorne

Read Across America is a national event celebrating reading as well as Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Hawthorne School will be celebrating this during the week of February 25th. Your child will be bringing home a book template that they can decorate with the title of their favorite book! We will hang these in the hall to show a love for reading at Hawthorne School! Please return by Friday, February 22. Stay tuned for more information next week!

Distinguished Educator Award Nominations

Do you know a District 200 teacher/educator who has inspired you and made a difference in you or your child’s life? Please complete this nomination form by February 24, 2019!

Annually, the Student Excellence Foundation honors six educators at their Celebrate Our Stars event.

Nominations may be made by any District 200 student, parent or guardian, alumna or alumnus, staff, or community member. You may nominate more than one educator; however, a separate nomination form must be used for each. Any educator is eligible for nomination if he/she is currently employed by District 200 (including classroom aides). Self-nominations will not be considered.

On April 16, 2019, at the Celebrate Our Stars evening, the Student Excellence Foundation will present awards to one teacher/educator at each school level (preschool/elementary, middle, and high school), for each the North & South portions of the District.

A committee of three former principals will review the blind nominations and select six recipients for Distinguished Educator Awards. Recipients will be notified mid-March; we’ll also inform all nominees and their principals that they received a nomination. Please indicate if you would like your submission to remain anonymous.

Check out the previous awardees.

Contact the foundation at 630-474-1344 or info@StudentExcellenceFoundation.org if you have questions.

Update from the P.E. Department

Dear Hawthorne Families,

It is a busy time right now in P.E. Grades K-2 have been working on hand eye-coordination while striking using different short and long handled implements such a foam coated hockey sticks, lollipop paddles, and short handled hockey sticks. In grades 3-5 we have started a floor hockey unit where we have discussed the positions in hockey and what the role and job of each position is. Students have been working on stick handling skills and shooting skills at targets. We will begin playing 4 on 4 and 5 on 5 floor hockey games starting next week.

We have official started our Plunge into Fitness Challenge through Raging Waves! Students who are participating are encouraged to exercise for 30 minutes per day for a total of 25 hours. This challenge goes until April 5th, and fitness logs will be collected on April 8th.

Dad's Gym Night will take place on Thursday, February 28th. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.; activities are from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Give mom a night off and come have fun with crazy games! All Hawthorne students, dads and siblings are invited. Games will range from floor hockey to everyone’s favorite, Pin Guard. If you have any questions, contact Tim Bayee at Bayeet@gmail.com

1st graders celebrated 100 days of school

What would it look like if we were 100 years old? First graders celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing up like they were 100 years old! Some wore mustaches, granny shawls, glasses, and suspenders! They also participated in many math and reading related activities around the number 100. Below are a few pictures from their 100th day of school.
