Learning Commons News

"Paws for Books Book Fair" - Spring Scholastic Book Fair

Our spring Scholastic Book Fair will be in the Learning Commons from April 9th to April 13th (the week after Spring Break). Stop by the Learning Commons from 7:35 to 4:00 to shop for some great books of all ages or shop our online fair at http://www.scholastic.com/bf/meadowglenmiddleschool1 from April 4-17th. Because our theme is pets, we will have a donations drive to help a local shelter and rehabilitation center. Here is what students can bring to the Learning Commons to help our furry friends in need:

  • 30 gallon trash bags
  • tall kitchen trash bags
  • unopened canned dog and cat food (any brand)
  • unopened dry dog and cat food (any brand)
  • new cat or dog toys
  • dog collars of any size
  • AAA and AA batteries
  • newspapers
  • plastic grocery bags
  • bleach
  • postage stamps
  • Dawn dish washing doap
  • dishwasher detergent
  • liquid laundry detergent
  • antibacterial soap
  • facial tissues (lotion free)
  • paper towels
  • mops
  • towels, sheets, blankets
  • new feather dusters
  • scrub brushes
  • 75W reptile heat bulbs
  • 100W Night Heat bulbs
  • 48: UVB fluorescent bulbs

If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to work at the Book Fair, please email Ms. Kohout-Tailor at jkohout-tailor@lexington1.net. Thanks!

Fireflies Baseball Reading Program

Would you like for your student to be able to go to a Fireflies baseball game for FREE? All they have to do is read 4 "just right" books from February 7th until March 30th. If they meet their reading goal, they will receive a free ticket to a Fireflies baseball game, a hot dog, drink, chips, and surprise while at the game! This is a great opportunity to have your student make a reading goal. Students can get their reading log from their ELA teachers, in the Learning Commons, and from the Learning Commons Schoology Course.
