We had a great first week back! Our kids did a great job jumping right back into routines and our teachers and parents helped make this a seamless transition with all of their hard work 1st and 2nd quarter. Thank you to everyone!

Free Meals during Virtual Learning:

We are looking for substitutes:

DVUSD has launched a campaign to build our teacher and classified substitute pool. DVUSD is reaching out to interested parents as well as community members to join our substitute workforces. As you may know, substitutes are needed in classrooms, health offices, custodial teams, and hourly positions such as front office staff and monitors. If you or someone you know is interested, please have them contact allison.kaikala@dvusd.org. We can assist with the steps necessary to sign up. Please consider signing up even if you can only help out one day a month!

UPDATE: The board recently approved an increase in daily pay rate for substitutes.

What can I do when I'm feeling confused?

  1. Pay attention to your self-talk. If your self-talk is negative try to make it more positive.

2. The kinder you are to yourself when you are confused, the more you will learn because you will be less likely to quit.

3. Keep in mind that confusion may feel like a speed bump on the road to knowledge, but it doesn't mean that you should stop.

  • All K-8 Students & Early Childhood (Developmental Preschool/Head Start) will return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. (No school on Monday, January 18 for MLK Day)

Happy New Year, Firebirds!


As we are still in the midst of a pandemic, it is very important that we take care of our bodies. CDC has provided a few recommendations on how we can do this:


  • Eat healthy, well-balanced meals
  • Exercise regularly
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Take deep breaths, stretch, and meditate
