April 6, 2020 Monday Update
Galena Park I.S.D. Employee Newsletter
A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
April 6, 2020
Dear Galena Park I.S.D. Staff,
My deepest hope and prayer is that each of you remains in good physical and mental health. Although the challenges we have recently encountered have come at a high cost to us as educators, I am very grateful for the way our District has responded to the needs of our students and their families. Way to go, GPISD staff!
At this time, I would like to focus on something we all need to hear: self-care is critical to those who constantly provide for the needs of others. We educators fall into this category. Please take the time provided by the Easter holiday (Good Friday, April 10 and Monday, April 13) to focus on taking care of yourselves and your families.
Galena Park I.S.D. will remain closed until it is safe for us to reopen. Although we are currently scheduled to remain closed until May 4th, this is a rapidly changing situation and no decision has been made regarding the District’s reopening. We will keep you all updated as we receive additional information and further decisions are made.
Until we see each other again, I urge you to continue to adhere to the Stay Home, Work Safe order. Each of you, and your loved ones, continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
Angi Williams, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
2020 District Needs Assessment Survey
GPISD Employees:
The 2020 Needs Assessment Survey is now available. The survey is part of the Comprehensive Needs Assessment for both the District and campuses. The feedback received will be utilized in the needs assessment process, required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), to develop District and campus plans. Your input is a vital part of the process. See survey link below:
The survey will be available to complete until April 20, 2020. You will be required to login to Eduphoria; however, the survey results are anonymous.
Thanks in advance for your participation!

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Teachers,
COVID-19 has changed the way we teach and interact with students, their parents/guardians and each other. Therefore, the GPISD Professional Development website is an available resource as you navigate this new normal. Please bookmark and reference this page as training and other important materials will be posted on a weekly basis.
While the district is closed, we expect students to continue learning at home with the remote support of teachers and support personnel. To better support and prepare teachers for at-home teaching/learning, there are two initial online training courses that are required:
- GPISD Guidelines for Grading during the school closure (Click here: Link to training) - Deadline April 9th
- Online/Video Meeting Requirements (Click here: Link to training) - Deadline: April 14
These required trainings will provide all teachers with guidelines and foundational knowledge for online teaching/learning needed to provide the best learning opportunities for GPISD students.
