OUR VISION IS TO BE A HEALTHY AND LITERATE COMMUNITY!
Welcome Back!
I know the starting and stopping can be difficult for kids and for us as well. As we return on Monday, let's be tuned into kids' emotional space and to one another. We know the reliance on consistent routines and schedules provides safety and relief for our students. As we remember from 2017, the students were eager to be back in class learning with their peers. We also know the smoke and the canceling of school likely triggered emotions and worry. I know you all will be tuned into these feelings. Fortunately, our students weren't under any evacuations, although they might have had family members who live north of us that came to stay with them. Please be sure to build in time for a brief morning meeting/community circle to check in with students. Here is a link to a resource to help prompt ideas for a community circle. It was shared by secondary and can be adapted as needed for your grade level.
Coffee and light morning snacks will be available in the staff room at 7:45 am. Come grab a cup of coffee and connect with staff members after our time away. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with all of our staff and students on Monday!
Staff Meeting
Food Pantry
We served over 200 families on Friday to help restock kitchens. Our families who were without power lost everything. Thank you to all of you who donated and volunteered! it was a great event that brought people together from all parts of our community.
Below is the thank you I posted on Facebook.
Dear Sonoma Community.
Words cannot fully express the gratitude and joy we have experienced over the last two days. An army of people have walked through our doors with love in their hearts and arms full of food. With every donation came an overwhelming sense of community and desire for a greater good. I believe we all want to be a part of something bigger and have a sense of purpose. The last few days have proven that to be true. People who were personally affected by this weeks events donated to our community. Supports from outside the Valley and state donated to the efforts. These are amazing times we live in and our community has proven over and over again that we are resilient, compassionate and generous beyond compare.
There are over 150 individuals and organizations that support this effort! Thank you all for your love and support. We will help many families tomorrow because of all of you.
Gracias, eskerrik asko, thank you! Maite

Shelter
I am sharing this with you because I realized that we need to be better prepared as a school and community. There will be a bigger conversation about emergency preparedness at least at the city level. For those of us in the unincorporated areas we need a voice at the table too. We need to have supplies for our community on this side of town and easily accessible in an emergency. More to come!
Assessment Calendar Update
Let me know if you need more time or help with A-Z testing.
Thank you!
My Calendar Should be Declared a Disaster Zone
My calendar never fully recovered from the last school closure. I am working to reschedule all the meetings, observations and appointments I had this week. The greatest impact to you and students are the SSTs and IEPs. I will do my best to honor preps, breaks etc... My apologies in advance if I step on recess or prep. If I do I will find away to make it up. Observations need to be rescheduled as well. If you had an observation scheduled please stop by and lets find another time. Thank you for your understanding.
