Pine Class News Update

Measure everything!
This week we've been working on measuring things in our classroom using inch tiles. It would be great to measure things at home and on the street!
-How many steps does it take to get to the end of our block?
-How many peas line up across the plate?
-Cheese-its are a great measuring tool! Very close to the tiles we're using in school. They're great for measuring the length of the table, a fork, or a napkin.
Measuring fish!
Realistic Fishies.
We've been reading about fish too.
There's a Lake, River, and an Ocean in Our Classroom!
Thank you, Sally!
"If you're mad, you can meditate for 10 seconds." - Bohdi
"We put our hands here (on our legs). We can open our eyes or close them. We also, we were very still to follow her directions. It felt fun. I would use it if I get mad." - Theo
We have a quiet time everyday after lunch and that's a great time to use some meditating strategies. It's also a great thing to practice at home!
There Are Worms in Our Classroom!
Ask you child some questions to see what great worm experts they're becoming!
-What are castings?
-Do worms eat paper?
-What is the name of the type of worms in the classroom? red...
-What are the steps of making a worm bin?
-What tools did you use?
-What are your predictions about the bin? What do you think will happen next?
We ripped up newspaper for "bedding".
We soaked the paper in water and took off the extra water.
After we added the worms, we filled out our logs and wrote predictions.
A Great Conversation About Our New Friends, The Worms
"But we don't put it in the bin because it might get stinky."
"The worms are kind of flippy."
"I know which one is Mr. Flippy. I named mine Robert Because he was this-------long. Robert Flippy, but Pine is his middle name."
How to How To!
There are lots of ways to How-to at home:
-Write out the morning routine - step by step (it might just speed it up!)
-Talk about the steps involved in making a favorite meal or snack
-After going to the park - Discuss or draw the steps of how to build a snowman or how to walk on slippery snow
Reading Bag Reminder
Please remember that the bags need to come back to school EVERYDAY! They are a major part of our reading instruction each day both for full class reading time and small group instruction. Help to make this part of your child's daily routine. It's not your responsibility - it's theirs! :-)
