ZIS Vision: One Child, Two Languages - Unlimited Possibilities
ZIS Mission: We will provide and assist each student with a well-rounded and differentiated education that is centered around the immersion of the Spanish language and cultures to prepare them for a global society.
Instructional Focus: The SIOP Model in ALL classrooms. Please, por favor, PLEASE review, use, and reflect upon the components of SIOP and continue conversations within your grade level meetings during your common planning times. Online gradebook
An updated and accurate grade book is an invaluable tool for all educators. It is expected that grade books will be updated on a weekly basis. Please perform a gradebook report on PowerSchool each Friday to ensure grades are not lost when report cards go out. TPS policy requires a minimum of:
· 2 grades per week for Reading
· 2 grades per week for Math
· 1 grade per week for Social Studies
· 1 grade per week for Science.
· 4 grades per quarter for Specials subjects
· Grades from library projects will be infused into the grade book of the subject it is covering as needed.
Have a GREAT WEEK! You are the best of the best, and I am blessed to be with such great professionals like YOU! This is the best school in the nation!

ZIS Focuses on...
Below is the link to an 8:30 video on Content and Language Objectives. I really like how the teacher explains that the SIOP Model helps everyone being explicit in their teaching and gives everyone the same guidance in helping dual language learners. Please, watch this video before our CPA Meeting. I'd love to hear your feedback on it.
Teacher of the Week
El Orgullo de Zarrow
Sra. Schafer is a stellar GT/Sparks teacher that has been a wonderful asset to ZIS. As many of you know, we had a great GT teacher before at ZIS: Dr. Van Eman. She was one of my teachers when I attended Metro Christian Academy. Frequently, when I travel to the Wilson Center, Dr. Van Eman tells me how lucky we are to have Sra. Schafer with us at ZIS and I could not agree more. Now, we have the true honor of having a GT teacher that works so hard to accommodate teachers and our high number of GT students in a way that has changed the playing field for not only our GT students, but also our non-GT kiddos. Teachers are also able to work along her, too, as they learn GT strategies. I, myself, have learned a wealth of knowledge from Sra. Schafer about GT, what it means to be GT, and how the strategies that GT teachers possess can be used to reach ALL students. Not only that, I have been able to sit in on conversations had with parents and see her true connection with the families. I am always impressed and inspired by Sra. Schafer.
Sra. Schafer, one time I was told that the hardest part about being a principal is juggling all of the things you have to juggle AS WELL AS being an instructional leader. You have no idea how wonderful it is not to have to juggle the GT ball; nevertheless, I get to be one of the things you juggle as you always stop and teach me more about the program, how it works, and how we can always strive to make it better. Your handwork and dedication is always noticed, and is especially noticed as I walk into the aftercare and a child says, "I suck at chess." And another students corrects him and says, "No. That's not true. You're just not good at it, YET!" Now, this is a little funny, but the key word here is YET...which was a big part of your Language Objective that day. I am so glad I just so happened to experience this and share it with you. They listen to you because you have something very important to say. Congratulations on being this week's Teacher of the Week. Enjoy the space. ;-)
