Principal's Message
Welcome back to Term 4.
In life every now and then you need to ensure you are able to be in a position where you can 'hit the ground running '. Term 4 in schools is one of those occasions and as I have walked through our learning environments this week I have been impressed (not surprised) by the readiness of our children, teachers and wider support team with supporting and doing the learning.
This term we have made a slight change to our weekly routine by moving our Monday assembly to the morning. I always enjoy our school assemblies, it is the one consistent time each week when we get to connect as a school, share messages and celebrate success. During this week's assembly, I shared with the children a quick recount of my term break and how I played chauffeur to my children (I am confident many of you can relate). Over the two weeks, my family spent only 3 of the 16 nights at home, travelling to Wanaka, Hawkes Bay for Cricket and Auckland for Basketball. While it was a busy two weeks with lots of moving parts, I felt very privileged to be in a position where I was able to dial in remotely to work, while being able to support and be present for my family.
This feeling of privilege leads me to my message on Monday to our children about the privilege many of us collectively have. The privilege of education, family support, food, health and so on. The learning I asked the children to take away was to acknowledge it and be grateful for the many areas they have access to without thought. It was not and is not about feeling guilty, which I feel sometimes society can impart on you for having access to such things, but rather thankful.
On a similar note, as a school, we are once again grateful to be in a position where we can start to bring back the many occasions that as a school community we have not been able to do for a couple of years. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with the key dates below, it will be lovely to have your involvement in the events that relate to you and your child/ren.
Finally, over the past few months we have been busily sorting and building our new school website with the intent to make it more user friendly with less layers, while remaining up to date an informative for both new families and current ones. If you have a moment click on the link to check it out.
Warm Regards
Geoff

Staffing update
In the last week of Term 2, Sarah Shearer informed me she had won a position as Scale A teacher at Te Ao Marama School. Prior to this Sarah and I had had conversations around various opportunities available for her and her desire for change. Unfortunately, due to timing we were not in a position to provide any certainty with what that may or could look like here.
Personally, while it is a loss to the Hangawera and our wider team, I have shared my obvious support for Sarah and she only (deservedly so) has my best wishes for her new opportunity.
I know that many of you have experienced the positive impact Sarah has had on your child and I know she has enjoyed her time here and leaves with many fond memories.
In regards to appointments, we have already advertised our current fixed term positions and we will aim to fill this position with the current applications, which close 4.00pm Friday 21st October.
