Model 1 Sums and differences to 10
Following the Mid-Module Assessment, Topic G relates addition to subtraction. Since Module 4 in Kindergarten, students have been very familiar with subtraction as “take away.” During Fluency Practice in the lessons in Topics A through F, we have had opportunities to remember their Kindergarten work with subtraction. Therefore, Topic G starts immediately with the concept of subtraction as a missing addend, just as Grade 3 students learn division as a missing factor in a multiplication problem. 3+?=7 is related to 7-3=? We are using the number path to help students to count on and count back.

❓ Weekly Essential Question(s): How can we evaluate and improve on our design?
We work in teams to present our "too loud" and "just fine" light communication devices. We listen to our friends' presentations and consider what features from other designs that we might want to incorporate into our device. We also share ideas about how to improve the performance of others’ devices. Then we start a new round of designs to improve our devices.

Language Comprehension:
- Identify the words: 朋友, 的, 哪, 这, 吗 in reading and listening
- Recognize the expression of 哪里

- Identify demonstrative pronoun 这 and interrogative pronoun 哪
- Understand the usage of 的 to indicate one’s possession,(e.g. 你的小马, 我的朋友。)

Express when something is missing (e.g. 我的小马在哪里?)
Express when something doesn’t belong to someone(e.g. 这不是你的小马。)
Indicate one’s possession using the noun modifier 的
