Harpers Ferry is an area in West Virginia that John Brown, an abolitionist, raided on October 16th 1859. John Brown hoped to cause the state to rebel when he took an arsenal of weapons. Brown's raid had 20 people in it and when they tried to start a rebellion Robert E. Lee fought against them with his 88 soldiers. Lee won the battle and John Brown was sentenced to death.
