Locker Update
America & Me Essay Contest
While 8th graders spent a great deal of time learning about American History in their Social Studies classes, several also took time to reflect and write about their American heroes earlier this year.
As you might recall, several 8th graders participated in the America and Me Essay contest, where the students wrote about his/her own Michigan hero. This was an optional writing contest that hundreds of students participate in each year across the state of Michigan.
The contest judges sent the results back to Romeo Middle School recently. The top three entries are as follows:
1st place was Grace Schildgen, who wrote about her dad.
2nd place was Hope Pierfelice, who wrote about her great-grandfather.
3rd place was Lara Ashbrook, who wrote about her equestrian coach.
All three will receive a special certificate recognizing their achievement, and Grace’s entry was also entered into the state-wide competition. Congratulations to these three writers for their inspiring essays.

2023 Romeo Middle School
It’s time to lace up those running shoes and get ready to run! The 2023 Track and Field season is around the corner and we are thrilled to have you involved. The first practice will kick off the season on Monday, April 10. Daily practices will take place every day at 3:20 pm until 5 pm at Memorial Field. The first meet is on Wednesday, May 3. (See the link below for the full schedule.)
Middle School Track and Field encourages 7th and 8th graders to push themselves for their own personal gratification as well as a member of the Romeo team. Top times/distances will earn points for the team. There are no cuts in track and field; all athletes are allowed to participate. However, athletes must be dedicated and willing to practice and compete in their assigned race in order to be a member of the team. Both 7th and 8th graders have received an email form to fill out if they plan to participate.
If you are not familiar with Track and Field, please see the attached information link about the season. See Coach Paulson at room 605 or email her with any questions: amy.paulson@romeok12.org.

Celebrations
College Board & Xello
For any students interested in the medical field:
Camp Scrubs is an amazing career focused learning opportunity! Hosted by Macomb Community College.
6th grade:
The 8th Grade Leadership Team Mentorship Program began this week with selected 6th grade students. The 6th grade students and the 8th grade mentors will meet 2x a month during lunch and will work on relationship building, organizational skills, and adapting to middle school. We are very excited to have this opportunity to work together and create friendships and learn new things.
7th grade:
Mrs. Skover is so happy to be back and seeing all of the wonderful 7th graders again! The high school Link Crew will be visiting our 7th grade classrooms next week to present about various social and emotional topics. This is a great opportunity for them to connect and learn from older Romeo students!
8th grade:
Every 8th grade student had the opportunity to create a CollegeBoard account this week. This account is crucial to receiving their PSAT 8 scores. Without an account, your child will not be able to access their scores. If your student was absent for this process, please have your student go to collegeboard.org and use the magenta information sheet to create the account.
