NHS Senior Ceremony
The NHS Senior Ceremony will be held on May 1 at 6pm in the PAC. We will induct our newest NHS officers and celebrate our senior members by presenting them with their graduation stoles. Only seniors in good standing with the organization (who have completed all required community service hours by the April 30 deadline) are invited to attend, along with their families. Junior members do not need to attend. Thank you!
BVW Theatre Presents:The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Musical
In this hilarious musical, an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. A riotous ride, complete with audience participation, THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE is a delightful den of comedic genius. RATED PG for minor use of course language.

BVW Red Zone Golf Tournament
SAVE THE DATE – JULY 21, 2023!
The Blue Valley West Red Zone is excited to host the annual golf tournament and auction, Friday, July 21, 2023, at Ironhorse Golf Club. We hope you can join us for a fun day of golf to benefit the Blue Valley West High School Jaguar football program.
It’s going to be a great day as current, past and future Jaguars as well as members of our community compete for prizes while supporting the football team. All levels of golfers are welcome!
All proceeds of this four-player scramble will go directly to the football program.
This is the Red Zone’s only fundraiser of the year. In the past, funds raised have helped purchase weight room equipment, new helmets and uniforms, stadium signage, team dinners and much more!
Even if you don’t play golf, we welcome anyone to come and take a look and bid on auction items that will be displayed in the Ironhorse Clubhouse the day of the tournament.

JOCO Resource Numbers
Numbers you need to know
Last July, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255 or 1-800-273-TALK) transitioned to a three-digit dialing code, 988. The three-digit dialing code routes calls to the Lifeline network and provides a connection to local support and services for those experiencing a mental health crisis. Johnson County Mental Health Center began answering Lifeline calls as a part of the national network in August of 2021.
In its first five months, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline received over 1.7 million calls, texts and chats. Federal government data shows a significant increase in calls, texts and chats from December 2021 to December 2022. To learn more about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, check out our Mental Health Moment—a weekly newsletter that opens dialogue, increases understanding, and removes some of the stigmas surrounding mental health issues where we’ve prepared hot, warm and crisis lines for you to add to your contact list. We all need some help sometimes, and it’s okay to reach out.

Activities and Athletics Message
Blue Valley Families,
We are excited to have your families come to support our high school activities and athletics this school year. It is great to see the entire community at these events. It is imperative that our parent community partner with us as we work to encourage a positive atmosphere for our high school games or events.
Sportsmanship/officials: We want to give our student athletes the opportunity to play as many games as possible and we need officials to make those games happen. With a local and national shortage of officials, we want to make sure officials continue to choose to work Blue Valley events. The number one way we can create a welcoming environment is for spectators, coaches and student athletes to be courteous and respect the official’s decisions.
Tailgating: Tailgating before games has become a tradition for many students and families. We love to see our community gathering together to enjoy food and tailgate games in our parking lots. As a reminder, alcohol and tobacco are not allowed on district property including parking lots.
Thank you for your help in making our district events a great experience for all who attend. We hope to see your family cheering for our Blue Valley teams this school year.
Fostering a Safe Environment
As we move into a new semester please share the following message in your upcoming family newsletters:
Blue Valley Schools is committed to promoting and fostering a safe environment in and around all of our schools. Through the convergence of physical and intellectual security measures, we are continuously working to prevent, mitigate, respond to and recover from a wide range of emergencies. Please check out available ways to report safety concerns.
