Angel Tree Program Seeks to Support Families in Need During the Holidays
Turkey Box Drive Ends Thursday, 11/21
Salford Hills Holds Turkey Box Drive
We're thankful every day at Salford Hills, in part because of the fantastic support we receive every day and how so many of our parents help us demonstrate social responsibility by showing kindness through projects like this. Thank you to our many families that share their generosity so freely with us!
Thanks to so many who are filling our boxes already!

Hats in the Building?
Every wonder why Hat Day is a special event, one that families actually pay money to participate? Because following an old but relevant rule of good manners is the fact that we don’t allow students to wear hats in school. It’s a rule that speaks to tradition and respect. As I read in this article from The Emily Post Institute, sometimes you follow the rule because you don’t want to offend others regardless of how outdated you may feel it is. So it’s HAT’S OFF at Salford Hills – at least 179 days of the year :)
An exception of course is when students are getting ready to go outside where the elements may cause you to don a hat. Just as we put on our coats, scarves, and gloves before we walk out the door, we put on a hat as well. Children should feel comfortable wearing hats when they are preparing for recess or waiting in the cafeteria during centralized dismissal. These are practical applications which transcend the “hat rule”.
We live in times when older protocol is challenged by fashion or trends. However, there are lines. Just as we continue to teach children to say “please or thank you”, smile and nod as they pass someone, or pause in the hallway line to allow another to pass, it is our diligence to hold the line on this rule as well. Hats on outside? Sure. But let’s take them off in school.
Respectfully,
David R Purnell, Ed.D.

My School Bucks is Back!
Dear SASD Parent/Guardian,
The SASD Food Service Department is pleased to announce that a new point-of-sale system has been installed and will be fully functional within the next few weeks.
As you may recall, www.MySchoolBucks.com was temporarily disabled during our network disruption. All student food service transactions have been manually recorded (payments and purchases) and maintained by our Department. We anticipate the reconciliation of all accounts to be completed shortly, at which time the functionality of www.MySchoolBucks.com will return. An e-mail will be sent when this occurs.
In the meantime, you may continue to fund your child’s account by sending cash or checks (made payable to the SASD Food Service Department). Please include your student’s name and ID number on the check. Separate checks for each student are required.
Thank you for your patience as we work through this process. We look forward to having your child join us for breakfast and lunch. Should you have questions, please contact Jane Natali, Director of Food Services, at 215-723-6061 extension 10213 or e-mail at jnatali@soudertonsd.org.
Thank you,
