Spooner High School Update

Office Hours/Conferences on Thursday, December 10th

Term two conferences are taking place this Thursday, December 10th from 3:45-7:45 p.m. Feedback from last term was positive regarding the online tool to schedule conferences. We learned that scheduling reduces line-ups for teachers, and we want to make the most of our time with you, especially during this busy season. To schedule with teachers, please click on the following link.

Freshman Retreat with Youth Frontiers

Last Wednesday, our freshman students participated in a retreat with Youth Frontiers. Their primary goal for the day was to allow students to experience what it might feel like to be respected for a whole day. Objectives included creating student awareness that they and others matter, helping students understand that disrespectful behavior is harmful, and to increase respect for self and others within the students. Check out more about the organization on their website! http://www.youthfrontiers.org/respect-retreat/

To give you a glimpse into the day, check out this brief video.

December Rails Recognition Rally

An oversight was that no photos were taken of the day, but to keep you updated, the following was recognized at this monthly event.

*Perfect Attendance for Term 1: Students who had perfect attendance were recognized for their commitment to being at school every day for the whole term. They were also placed in a drawing where the winners received a pass to get out of class three minutes early to get to the front of the lunch line.

*We recognized that 83% of our students did not receive an office referral for behavior in Term 1. Students who were a part of that percentage were placed in a drawing for the three minutes out of class to get to the front of the lunch line as well.

*New staff and students were recognized in a student-produced video, which will be highlighted next month for those not recognized this month.

*Two student leaders in FFA were recognized for being honored as "Key Award" recipients from Washburn County in addition to their leadership in that organization.

*Several teachers were given specific "Shout-outs' from the student body for their work and dedication.

*Mrs. Meyers was given special recognition for her planning and facilitating of Youth Frontiers retreats for our student body and staff. In addition, four teachers and upperclassmen student leaders were recognized for their extra effort in assisting with the retreat.

Our next Rails Recognition Rally will take place on Friday, January 8th!
