Weekly Newsletter
This week, I am so excited and honored to shine the spotlight on our El Camino School Athletic Director extraordinaire, Wesley "Blake" Moorman!
In his 3rd year as the Director of Athletics at El Camino High School, Blake is the epitome of what it means to be a Wildcat; perseverance, empathy, respect, responsibility & collaboration. In his first year as AD, Blake had to build schedules and supervise over 90 coaches working with over 1,000 student-athletes in 24 athletic programs without the use of a gymnasium. While the GYM project was originally scheduled for completion by the spring sport season of that same year, the reality is that construction was delayed. Blake however, was undeterred and successfully managed not one, but two full years without the use of the GYM. And while we had to call alternate sites such as Melba Bishop Park and even the Army & Navy Academy as our "home" court or field, Blake was able to create an atmosphere that was welcoming to all of our Wildcat fans, coaches, and most importantly, our student-athletes.
Blake thought that he was "out of the woods" when the GYM was completed, but then, as we all know, the pandemic struck. Again, in displaying his strength as a leader, Blake not only successfully managed the past year and a half of ever-changing mandates and protocols, but he, and our programs, actually thrived! During this time, our Wildcat teams secured numerous Avocado league titles along with three CIF San Diego Section titles! (Girls Basketball, Softball and Boys Volleyball - 1st time ever!!) It was also during this time that our football team competed in the California State Championship game for the first time.
We are fortunate to have Blake on our campus, teaching PE and guiding our athletic program not only because of the leadership that he brings to these endeavors, but also because he possesses a championship spirit and a true passion for our students and the Oceanside community. He lives by the motto "Pursuing Victory with Honor" and he continues to encourage our student-athletes to strive for competitive greatness on a daily basis.
