Where Are We Now? - The Implementation Update
We now have over 16,000 users in the platform! Congratulations to everyone who has made this such a successful experience!
Worth noting:
- Parents should not be using their student’s login credentials. Please encourage them to use their own credentials.
- We have a process to create advisor roles for Resource teachers and paras. Please submit a help ticket to help@asd20.org so that we can help you setup this role.
- As we make progress with those features, we’ll communicate updates.
We keep moving forward thanks to you! Here’s what we’ve seen since the 2018-2019 school year began:
- Over 1,800,000 total visits
- Almost 26 million page views
- Over 382,000 files uploaded
- Almost 448,000 submissions
- Over 64,000 comments posted
Keep in mind that we’re at the beginning of a journey. We have a lot of ground to cover and we’re just learning the terrain. Communication is key! Partner with us by participating, asking questions, and providing feedback so that we can continue to grow. That participation is helping us work to meet your needs.
If something unusual happens, communicate it to your DLC who will reach out to us if they need additional support. We’re happy to help, plus we won’t know what to fix or improve unless we hear from you.
Using External Tools with Schoology
Nearpod and Schoology
External tools cannot always be integrated at the district level, but that doesn’t mean you’re unable to use the tools you love. Instead of asking why we haven’t integrated the tool, let’s ask how we can use our favorite tools. The good news is that you can! Let’s use Nearpod as an example.
Nearpod is a great tool for interactive presentations and formative assessments. Even students can create Nearpods! For a look at Nearpod itself, visit www.nearpod.com .
To add a Nearpod to your Schoology course, you will use the External Tools feature. You will add your Nearpod like you do any other material by clicking on “Add Materials.” Here are the steps:
Click on Add Materials
Click on File/Link/External Tool
Choose External Tool
Fill in the title of your Nearpod lesson
Fill in the link to that Nearpod lesson
Choose whether or not you would like to Enable Grading
Choose Save Changes
Your Nearpod is assigned to your class (or to a group or individual if you choose). Your students don’t need to enter a code or find the app or find the website - the lesson is right there for them in their course. The pictures below highlight what you’ll see in this process.
Other external tools work just the same: Padlet, Google Forms, etc. How great is this?!

Preparing for ALEC's Sunset
The sun will set on ALEC at the end of the school year.
What does this mean to you? It means that there will no longer be any support for ALEC and you will no longer have access to any courses from this year or previous years.
If you have ANY content in ALEC, partner with your DLC for help downloading a backup of your materials. You can store the download in your OneDrive or upload it to Schoology.
