Learner Profile:
June’s learner profile trait is reflective. We will be looking for students who give thoughtful consideration to their own learning and experience. They are able to assess and understand their strengths and limitations in order to support their learning and personal development.
Language Workshop:
In Language Workshop, the students continue to learn about inquiry. The last unit that we will be working on is a unit on reflection. We have two great books that the children will be listening to and working with during our last two weeks of school. The children have grown so much in Language Workshop this year. They are truly ready to go to 4th grade and be successful.
Reading Workshop:
The students have now finished their MAP reading tests. Results will come in the future. The students are now working on keeping up their reading stamina during these last few days of school. I know that each 3rd grade child has made some sort of progress this year and we are proud of their efforts!
Writing Workshop:
Students have been very busy working on their weather books. Most have completed their research and rough drafts and have begun creating their final copies in Book Creator. Writing lessons have focused on writing an introduction, editing and revising, and including nonfiction text features in their books.
Math:
This week we finished our volume and mass unit. For the rest of the school year we will be working on a problem solving unit called “The Big Dinner.” They are planning a big dinner party so they have to calculate how much to buy and how much it will cost. Students will have the opportunity to apply all the skills they’ve learned this year to solve these problems.
This was the last week for math logs. Thank you for encouraging your son or daughter to practice their math at home throughout the year! This week you should have received a letter explaining how students can still use Tenmarks to keep their math skills strong over the summer. If you have questions, feel free to ask.
Science:
We will end our weather unit by creating a product or invention that could prevent a natural disaster, protect others in a natural disaster, or help others impacted by a natural disaster.
Second Step:
The rest of our Second Step lessons will deal will solving peer exclusion problems, dealing with negative peer pressure, and a review of the Second Step skills we’ve learned this year.
Other Information:
Thank you again to our parent volunteers who came along with us on our field trip to the Fox River!
