HOW TO RESPOND TO SCHOOL LOCKDOWN
In the event of an actual building lockdown at one of our six Jackson Local School District buildings, here are some important reminders to parents on how to respond.
DO NOT come to the school building during the lockdown. If a reunification plan is necessary, the details of such a plan will be communicated to parents through customary Jackson Local School District communication channels. Also, please do not tie up district human and technology resources by calling or emailing the building during a lockdown.
DO stay connected to your mobile device. The district will communicate updates as necessary during a lockdown situation.
If one Jackson Local School District building goes into a lockdown, the other five buildings will go into a shelter in place.
Please remember, the district will work closely with local law enforcement during a lockdown. The goal is to secure our location to make sure our students and staff inside the building are safe. During the course of the school year, the district is required to conduct lockdown drills and during those drills, it is communicated through speakers and apps, the event is a drill.

SCARY BOOKS FOR KIDS, TEENS
Sometimes a good scare is just the thing. These horror stories (linked in the button below) are deliciously spooky without being too terrifying -- perfect for a fall night by the fire! But it doesn't need to be Halloween time for kids and teens to enjoy these picks. These gripping tales full of zombies, haunted houses, and other supernatural scares will keep kids turning pages late into the night. And unlike horror movies that often rely on jump scares and gore, these well-written scary books provide all the creepiness without those concerns. So try out one of our favorite horror books, and for more spooky stories, try Common Sense Media's Best Ghost Stories for Kids and Teens.

JACKSON LOCAL SEEKS TO SERVE CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES
Within the intent of the federal statutes (Rehabilitation Act of 1973-section 504 and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act IDEA-public law 105-17), the Jackson Local School District continues its effort to locate and identify children with disabilities from birth through age 21. Children with disabilities have physical, emotional, and or mental impairments that may require special education. Public schools provide free and appropriate education regardless of a child’s disability. However, before these children can be served, they must be found. Many of these children are not visible because they may not function in the community’s mainstream, and many are preschoolers. Parents may not realize that programs and services are available through their school district or from agencies in their community. If you are aware of a child who may need a special education program or services, contact Kathy Brand, Jackson Local School District’s Special Programs Director with any question you may have regarding the above notice at 330-830-8006.
