KICKIN' IT WITH KILGORE

HMMS FAM1LY,

We have reached the end of the first 4.5 weeks of school! It is crazy how fast the first weeks have flown by! I am extremely pleased with the way the school year has started. Teachers are teaching and loving on kids and the students are engaged in the learning process.

We will be celebrating several of our students over the next couple of weeks for accomplishments they have made during the first progress period. We have students with perfect attendance and they have earned some grade level incentives, we will be celebrating our Students of the Month for August, and we will be announcing our first Best is the Standard award winner for this school year. Make sure you check out our Facebook page for those announcements!

We are also celebrating some staff for the month of August! Mr. Luther and Ms. Hunter were recognized as FAM1LY Members of the Month for August. These two individuals were selected by their peers as individuals that put others before themselves and model our core values of being REAL! We are lucky to have them impacting this school community on a daily basis! Ms. Valentine is our Sneaky Devil of the Month for August! She is always doing things behind the scenes to help others. She excels in the classroom and also puts in a tremendous amount of time and effort working with our students after school hours as well!

Great things are happening at HMMS, please view our newsletter below and check our Facebook page for information on all that happens at 435 Main Street!

Lady Devils Soccer

As we gear up for each season our first challenge is always restructuring the team. The loss of 8th grade players and the gain of 6th grade players generally requires a transition period. Coaches need time to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the new team, while the players have to learn the expectations and demands of the coaches. However, the talent with this team is evident. This was on full display at our first Jamboree against Cocke County when our girls won three of the skills competitions. Eighth grader Madisan Patterson started the winning streak with a one chance shot at the Crossbar competition. This was followed by 8th grader Cheyanne Sweet and 6th grader Sofia Riffey taking wins in both categories of the punting challenge. Finally, 8th grader Molly McGinnis wowed the crowd with her signature throw in. The coaching staff is excited to help these girls continue to grow and improve throughout the season. Go Lady Devils!

Be REAL not Perfect!

Each student should have received a Be REAL, not Perfect sticker for their Chromebook today. This is a focus for us this year, we will continue to Respect Everyone, have Educational Excellence, be Accountable to Self and Others, and Live a Life that Matters! Students will also be able to earn various stickers for their Chromebook for modeling those expectations through Student of the Month Awards!

We want our school to be a family first atmosphere and we will define family as the acronym- Forget About Me I Love You. We want our students to learn to serve others and this will also align to our core values.

PINK BOX at HMMS!

Check out this message from Ava Tiller who is a junior at UCHS and started a nonprofit to help kids in need! Talk about Living a Life that Matters!

My name is Ava Tiller and I’m an upcoming junior at UCHS. I’m starting a nonprofit organization targeted towards teenagers in need called PINK BOX. PINK BOX will place boxes around the county that contains clothes, hygiene items, shoes, and more. The box was made so that kids at anytime can go and take what they need without having to ask someone first, as that sometimes is embarrassing. I am asking that you’d allow me to put a box somewhere on the middle school campus that’s accessible at all times for students. I take up all of the donations and will manage the box, so don’t worry about having to manage it.
