Kitchen Sink . 2.6.19

(sorry, it's a long one!)

But first, Apologies . . .

With all of the delays and cancellations we've been dealing with, some of the really great and fun news we love to post has gotten put on the back burner. Our sincerest apologies for that to those who have achieved some awesome accomplishments and deserved immediate recognition. Without further adieu (and before any more postponements come in) . . .

C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S, Grayce!

On Thursday, January 24, Aquin hosted the Annual School Spelling Bee in the Aquin Auditorium. Two students from grades 5-8 represented their class in the contest. These students won the chance to compete through their classroom bees. When the final word was spelled correctly to end the school bee, 7th grader Grayce Busker was the last participant standing and she was declared the winner of the bee!

Grayce will now compete in the Regional Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 19 in Pearl City. The winner of the Regional Bee advances to the National Scripps Bee held in Washington, D.C.

Good luck, Grayce!

More Congratulations!

On Wednesday, January 23, St. Joseph/St. Mary Parishes in Freeport celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. There were 44 students confirmed, 13 of whom, are Aquin students: Thomas Bowman, Evan Broge, Hunter Buss, Brian Harrington, Alyssa Hunziker, Gavin Hunziker, Clay Luedeking, Lane Pierson, Hanna Pizzolato, Connor Senneff, Audrey Sundquist, Austin Sundquist and Zayvion Thomas.

What is Confirmation in the Catholic Church?
Confirmation enriches the baptized with the strength of the Holy Spirit so that they can better witness to Christ in word and deed (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC], no. 1285). Anointed by the Holy Spirit at Confirmation, Christians strengthen their bond with the Church and become better equipped to carry out the Church’s mission of love and service. (

(St. Thomas Aquinas Church will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday, March 7 at 5:30pm.)

January Students of the Month

A shield provides protection to the one who bears it. Aquin Schools strive to provide each student with a shield of Responsibility, Respect, Faith, Leadership, Service, Knowledge and Character. Each month from October through April, Aquin is recognizing three students who display the month’s quality of the shield. Students are nominated by staff and faculty at both campuses and then selected by Administration. Winners are awarded a coveted 'Free Jean Day' coupon!

Faith is January's shield and Aquin Schools are proud to announce their ‘Students of the Month’ for January: Senior High--Alyssa Hunziker, Junior High--Mason McIntyre, Elementary--Antonio Vera, Jr.

If you are interested in learning more about Aquin’s ‘Guardian of the Shield’ sponsor program, or want to learn more about joining the Aquin family, please contact Laura at 815-235-3154 x 226.

If you want to help the families monetarily, please click on the links below for access to the 'Go Fund Me' pages for each family. And keep saying those prayers.
